MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
Job Description
The Maintenance Technician will perform a variety of troubleshooting, routine maintenance, cleaning and utility duties throughout the warehouse, as dictated by the master sanitation and preventative maintenance schedules or as assigned by the Facility Manager on a regular basis. The maintenance tech is guided by a general knowledge of building upkeep and machine maintenance tasks, and the use of tools and basic maintenance supplies. The Maintenance Technician will demonstrate core competencies: communication, accountability, flexibility/adaptability, judgment/problem solving, in fulfilling job duties. We are hiring for 3rd shift - 9:30pm to 6:00am
Key Responsibilities:
Equipment Maintenance & Repair:
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on screw conveyors, bucket elevators, spouting, storage bins, and associated material-handling equipment.
Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
Calibrate and maintain level sensors, speed sensors, vibration monitors, and other equipment monitoring instruments.
Process Optimization & Reliability:
Ensure continuous and efficient operation of sugar conveying, elevating, screening, and storage systems.
Conduct root cause analysis for equipment failures and implements corrective actions.
Assist in system upgrades and modifications to improve efficiency and reliability.
Utilities & Infrastructure Support:
Maintain air compressors, air dryers, pneumatic air lines, and other plant air equipment.
Ensure proper functioning of HVAC, dust-collection, and filtration systems.
Monitor and maintain dry material-handling infrastructure such as chutes, airlocks, and dust-tight seals.
Safety & Compliance:
Follow all safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and chemical handling.
Ensure compliance with FDA, OSHA, and GMP regulations.
Maintain documentation for audits and regulatory inspections.
Spare Parts & Inventory Management
Assist in managing critical spare parts inventory and ordering replacement parts as needed.
Work with vendors and procurement teams to ensure availability of essential components.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, work orders, and downtime reports.
Use CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) for tracking maintenance schedules.
Support audits and provide technical documentation as required.
Team Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
Work closely with production, quality, and engineering teams to address maintenance-related concerns.
Participate in training and cross-functional teams for continuous improvement initiatives.
Work environment requires exposure to dust, noise, or extreme temperatures. Requires long periods of standing, roof access, work at heights and must be able to deadlift up to 60 lbs. Qualifications and Skills:
High school diploma or GED required; technical school or associate degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance preferred.
3+ years of maintenance experience in a food manufacturing, beverage, or liquid processing facility.
Experience with pumps, valves, piping systems, heat exchangers, and CIP (Clean-in-Place) systems.
Familiarity with food-grade processing equipment and sanitary design principles.
Technical Skills.
Strong troubleshooting skills in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
Knowledge of industrial electrical systems (480V, 3-phase motors, VFDs, PLCs, control circuits).
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, P&IDs, and technical manuals.
Experience with welding, pipefitting, and fabrication is a plus.
Proficiency in using CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) for work orders and asset tracking.
Understanding of OSHA safety standards, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and Confined Space Entry.
Knowledge of GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), FDA, and food safety requirements.
Familiarity with sanitary piping and food-grade material handling standards.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Good communication skills to interact with production teams, supervisors, and vendors.
Willingness to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and on-call as needed
12 months of experience working in a warehouse environment.
Previous Forklift Operator Certification preferred.
Electrical and Mechanical Certification.
