Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world.  In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.
Dawson Mine is excited to announce an exceptional opportunity for a Maintenance Superintendent: Capital Projects to join the Maintenance Leadership Team at Dawson Mine on a full-time, permanent basis with Anglo American. Reporting to the Engineering & Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for the safe and effective planning, delivery, and close-out of capital projects across Dawson Mine.
The Capital Projects Superintendent leads cross-functional project execution, stakeholder coordination, and contractor management to ensure equipment, infrastructure, and improvement works are delivered to scope, within budget, and meet compliance requirements.
As the Maintenance Superintendent: Capital Projects, the key accountabilities are:
• Communicate the Strategic Asset Management Plan, and Plan on a Page to align capital delivery priorities with business objectives.
• Lead the full project lifecycle including capital application development, execution planning, procurement, site readiness, and commissioning.
• Ensure new equipment introduced through capital projects aligns with maintenance strategies, introduction to site, tooling requirements, and rebuild philosophies.
• Manage site installation, commissioning, and operational readiness of new assets including verification of safety controls, documentation, and training.
• Develop and execute project shutdown plans including supervision allocation, scope delivery, and performance reporting.
• Lead procurement scope development, quote evaluation, and inventory planning for capital-introduced assets and modifications.
• Lead project and support teams through resourcing, performance feedback, mentoring, and succession planning.
• Manage OEM relationships across capital projects, ensuring design requirements, delivery risks, and commissioning support are effectively governed.
• Oversee Risk Management, Compliance and Asset Cost Control activities.
• Other requirements as assigned by the Engineering & Maintenance Manager.
To be successful you will have the following:
• Demonstrated experience and capability in a progressive maintenance leadership role within the Resources industry.
• Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or a related discipline (i.e. Master of Engineering Management) or relevant trade qualifications and industry experience.
• Supervisor & Risk Facilitator competencies (S1, 2, 3 & G2, G3).
• Experience with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodology (e.g. Apollo, TapRooT).
• Postgraduate qualifications in Project Management, Asset Management or Business are desirable.
• High Risk Work Licenses (e.g. Forklift, EWP, Dogging/Rigging) preferred.
• RPEQ accreditation in Mechanical Engineering is desirable.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, OEM knowledge (CAT & Komatsu) and heavy machinery used in mining operations.
• Demonstrated ability in project management for a mine site (coal preferred), including leading projects whilst working independently.
• Previous experience with SAP or a similar ERP will be desirable.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identify and address mechanical challenges.
• Adherence to safety regulations and a commitment to creating a safe working environment for all team members.
• Permanent, full-time position at Dawson Mine, Moura QLD
• Monday to Friday site role with 9-day fortnight available
