Métis Justice Programs Manager

Location: 11821 123 St, Edmonton, AB

Position Status: Full-time (40 hours/week), Permanent.

 

Are you driven by a passion for justice and community empowerment? The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is seeking a Métis Justice Program Manager to lead the Métis Justice Program (MJP). Reporting to the Director of Justice, this role will provide direct supervision to program staff and oversee daily operations. The Métis Justice Programs Manager will ensure programming remains responsive to the evolving needs of Métis communities. The successful candidate will be motivated, confident, and culturally sensitive, with exceptional communication skills, proven relationship-building abilities, and strong leadership experience. Above all, the Métis Justice Program Manager will be committed to advancing justice and supporting Métis people and communities.

 

Key Responsibilities

Oversee the daily operations of the Métis Justice Program (MJP).

Lead and support the MJP team in the development, implementation, evaluation, and reporting of programming, events, and services.

Provide direct case management for complex or high-needs files.

Identify service gaps and opportunities for program expansion and innovation.

Develop, review, and maintain program processes and procedures to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Ensure all program activities reflect the values, priorities, and cultural context of the Métis community.

Collaborate with the MJP team to identify and secure and secure grant funding to support program sustainability and growth.

Assist with financial management, budgeting and strategic planning.

Contribute to the strategic direction of the Justice Department and broader organizational priorities.

Prepare reports, track program outcomes, and ensure compliance with organizational policies and funding requirements.

Supervise program staff, including hiring, onboarding, training, assigning responsibilities, and managing work plans.

Mentor team members through regular coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations.

Create a positive team culture that promotes collaboration, professional growth, and organizational capacity.

Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Métis citizens, community organizations, and justice system partners.

Support the preparation and delivery of presentations, workshops, and training sessions for stakeholders, community members, and provincial/national audiences, as required.

Contribute to the strategic direction of the Justice Department, including participation in Otipemisiwak Métis Government community events, and representation at professional conferences and/or meetings.

Other duties as required or assigned.

Skills & Competencies

Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Métis culture, people, and values is an asset.

Knowledge of the Canadian Justice System, Mental Health System, and Addiction Systems.

Demonstrated cultural sensitivity, compassion, and respect in all interactions.

Proven leadership experience with the ability to supervise, mentor, and develop staff.

Recognized strength in leading and engaging teams, fostering collaboration, building organizational capacity.

Ability to manage multiple projects or tasks, delegate effectively, set expectations, and monitor progress.

Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven track record of building collaborative partnerships across diverse stakeholders.

Skilled in advocacy and maintaining strong community and government relationships.

High level of integrity, ethics, and professionalism.

Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.

Political sensitivity and sound judgement in complex situation.

Exceptional listening, verbal, and written communication skills.

Ability to produce professional documents, reports, and presentations.

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).

Proficient with Google Docs, Sheets and Forms.

Qualifications

Post-secondary education in social sciences, human services, justice studies, Indigenous studies, or in a related field.

Background in social work is considered an asset but not a requirement.

Minimum of three (3) years leadership experience, including leading a team of direct reports.

Experience with project management and developing, implementing, and evaluating programs is an asset.

Experience with report writing, grant proposals, budgeting, work plans, and strategic planning is an asset.

Experience working in an Indigenous and/or non-profit setting is an asset.

Experience working in the justice field is an asset.

Training in Trauma-Informed Care and Indigenous Awareness Training are considered assets.

Other Requirements

Position will be based in Edmonton.

Ability to work regular office hours of Monday to Friday 8:30 am-4:30 pm, as well as a flexible schedule of days, evenings, and weekends.

Travel within Alberta and out-of-province is a requirement.

Reliable transportation and valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License are required.

Acceptable attainment and annual maintenance of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check and an Intervention Record Check is required.
