Pay: $17 per hour

Summary

Listed below are the preferred skills for the Safety Intern. While not all the skills are required to obtain the position, they are areas that the Intern will gain valuable experience in as time progresses working in this role. It is important for the applicant to have a strong desire to learn to obtain this unique Intern opportunity. The intern will be assigned hands-on learning projects relating to day-to-day activities of the department to ensure a safety, healthy, and incident-free work environment. The&#xa0;intern must be a flexible and adaptable team-player, as well as have&#xa0;good communication skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned

• 1st Responsibility - Ensuring personal safety and the safety of your team members
• Follow all processes and procedures associated with the M&H Valve Safety and Environmental Program. Advise management of any deviations from this program.
• Assumes personal responsibility to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, and incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks.
• Culture & Facility• Develops an understanding of our facility's safety functions and programs.

• • Lead EHS improvement project(s) aimed at closing the risk gap and/or cultivating a positive safety culture.

• Training & Reporting• Assists with the preparation of safety and environmental reporting and manual updates
• Works with safety trainer to organize training and maintain associated paperwork
• Assist in the communication of safety to employees through group meetings, conferences, orientations, newsletter, etc.
• Assist with clerical duties to include filing, data entry, making copies, preparing training packets, etc.

• EHS Audits and Incident Investigations• Participate in EHS audits and investigations as directed by the Safety Director.
• Implement action items as they relate to improvements identified in weekly EHS audits.
• Completes root cause analysis and assists with implementation of identified solutions for incident investigations.

The individual must be a self-starter with the ability to take limited input and direction and achieve the desired goal. Education and/or Experience

• Must be actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in environmental, health and safety or related field.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook required.
• Must be flexible and adaptable team-player, as well as have&#xa0;good communication skills.
• Have a good understanding of OSHA standards.
• Strong verbal, written, analytical and interpersonal skills.
• Must have positive attitude and good work ethic.

• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.

Language Skills

Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Should be able to speak effectively to customers, management and/or other fellow employees of the organization.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical activities that require lifting to 50 pounds, balancing, walking, standing, stooping, and handling tools and materials. Must wear common protective or safety equipment, such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hats while in plant gathering data.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions or foundry/machine shop conditions; this includes potentially loud, hot, dusty areas with moving mechanical machinery.
