We’re looking for a skilled and safety-focused Class 1 / Lowbed Operator to join our team and play a key role in transporting the heavy equipment that powers our projects.
How You’ll Contribute
As a Class 1 / Lowbed Operator, you’ll be responsible for safely hauling and moving heavy equipment to and from project sites across the region. You’ll work closely with our operations, logistics, and field teams to ensure equipment arrives safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
This role is critical to keeping our crews productive and our projects running smoothly. You’ll represent MacKay on the road and on site, bringing professionalism, accountability, and strong safety practices to every move.
What You’ll Get to Do
Safely operate Class 1 tractor-trailer combinations, including lowbed and equipment hauling configurations
Load, secure, transport, and unload heavy construction equipment and attachments
Conduct pre-trip, post-trip, and daily equipment inspections
Ensure loads are properly secured and compliant with applicable transportation regulations
Coordinate with dispatch, shop personnel, and field supervisors regarding equipment moves and schedules
Complete logbooks, inspection reports, permits, and required documentation accurately and on time
Assist with equipment spotting and maneuvering on active construction and mine sites
Monitor equipment condition and report maintenance concerns promptly
Maintain a professional and safety-focused attitude while working around crews, clients, and the public
Support the team with other hauling or yard duties as operationally required
Who You Are
You’re dependable, mechanically inclined, and take pride in operating equipment safely and professionally. You understand that hauling heavy equipment requires patience, attention to detail, and strong situational awareness.
You work well independently but also understand the importance of communication and teamwork in a fast-paced construction environment.
You Have
Valid Class 1 Driver’s License with a clean or acceptable driver’s abstract
Experience operating lowbed trailers and hauling heavy equipment
Knowledge of load securement practices and transportation regulations
Strong understanding of safe driving practices in construction, highway, and resource road environments
Ability to safely load and unload a variety of heavy equipment
Good communication and organizational skills
Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional overtime or weekend work as required
Even Better If You Have
Experience hauling equipment in civil construction or mining environments
Air Brake Endorsement
Knowledge of permitting requirements for oversized loads
Experience operating heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, loaders, or graders
First Aid, CSTS, or site-specific safety certifications

Location & Schedule
This position is based out of Cranbrook, BC, with travel to various project and work sites throughout the East Kootenays and surrounding areas. Hours will vary depending on operational needs, weather conditions, and project schedules.
