The role
We are recruiting experienced Clinical Psychologists or Educational Psychologist to support a high-volume, specialist ASD diagnostic service delivering comprehensive autism assessments for children and adolescents.
This is a locum, self‑employed opportunity, ideal for psychologists looking to undertake assessment-only work alongside other commitments or as a full time opportunity. Clinicians are paid per completed assessment, with administrative and pathway structures already in place to support efficient delivery.
Assessments are psychologist led, with Occupational Therapy or Speech & Language Therapy input contributing to overall formulation.
Payment structure
• €1,400 per completed assessment (ADOS, ADI-R, WISC, Write-Up & Feedback)
Clinicians work as independent contractors and must hold their own professional indemnity insurance.
The ASD assessment pathway
Lead clinician: Psychologist
OT / SaLT role: Functional, sensory, and adaptive profile (non-diagnostic but integral to formulation)
Assessment components include:
• Clinical intake and consent
• ADI-R developmental history (virtual delivery acceptable)
• ADOS-2 autism observation (face to face in clinic)
• Cognitive assessment (WISC-V or WAIS)
• OT / SaLT functional and sensory assessment
• Diagnostic formulation
• Feedback session and comprehensive written report
Diagnosis is made by the psychologist, who integrates all assessment data and provides feedback to families.
Time expectations (indicative)
Psychologist – client-facing time:
• Intake & consent: 45–60 minutes
• ADI-R (virtual): 90–150 minutes
• ADOS-2 (face to face): 45–60 minutes
• Cognitive assessment: 90–120 minutes
• Feedback session: 45–60 minutes
Total client contact time: approximately 5–7 hours
Additional non-client-facing work:
• Scoring of ADOS and cognitive assessments
• Clinical formulation and MDT integration
• Report writing
Estimated additional time: 6–10 hours, depending on case complexity
Total psychologist time per assessment: approximately 11–17 hours
Clinic expectations
• ADOS-2 must be completed face to face
• For full ASD assessments, psychologists typically complete around two per week, inclusive of assessment and initial write-up
Essential criteria
• Doctorate or equivalent qualification in Clinical Psychology
• PSI Chartership (or validation with department of health where qualifications were obtained outside Ireland)
• Minimum 3 years post-qualification experience
• Formal ADOS-2 training (essential)
• ADI-R experience (formal training desirable but not essential for experienced clinicians)
• Experience completing ASD diagnostic assessments independently
Desirable experience
• Experience within a Children’s Disability Network Team (CDNT)
• Previous work within neurodevelopmental or specialist ASD services
