Job Description

🔎 We're on the hunt for a Litigation Claims Consultant  for our Cape Town Office who will be responsible for attending to the drafting of claim assessments in the Criminal Law Department, managing litigation files until finalization by service providers as per Company’s Policy and Procedure as well as the management of such approved claims that will include but is not limited to liaising with panel attorneys, reconciliation of approved claims and processing invoices payable. The Litigation Claims Consultant is also required to tend to the emergency bail line queues.

đź’ĽWhat You'll Be Doing:

âś… Attending to the Emergency Bail Queues;
âś…Register new cases on Lawyerly, where necessary; including all relevant dates and values and
verify policy payment history, before commencing with legal assistance, where necessary;
âś…Attending to criminal litigation files,
âś…Assessing criminal litigation claims,
âś…Managing criminal litigation claims in cooperation with the legal manager and Head of
Department and in accordance with the guidelines provided by the Claims Policy,
âś…Drafting of research claims and legal opinions,
âś…The LAW FOR ALL process must be explained in detail to policy holders as well as the
exclusion procedure, thus managing the policy holders’ expectations;
âś…Keeping of comprehensive and complete legal case files with regular entries and notes as
prescribed by the Legal Policy and Claims Policy;
âś…Supply regular progress reports and/or feedback to policy holders on their pending files.
Feedback must be provided to policy holders at least once a month or as often as the legal
matter dictates;
âś…Verbal and written interpretation of the law and legal matters and reflection thereof on the files in
a comprehensive manner;
âś…Providing policy holders with legal opinions, whether written or telephonically;
âś…Research legal relevant topics to remain aware of all current laws in a particular legal scenario;
âś…Follow instructions left by management in file notes or via e-mail or verbal instruction;
âś…Maintaining effective relationships with administration and support staff;
âś…Drafting of letters, representations and appeals;
âś…Managing the annual litigation benefit and budget of policy holders on approved claims;
âś…Ensuring that clients are afforded the correct litigation benefit, in respect of the policy under
which their Cause of Action date arose, where policy holders have either upgraded or
downgraded,
âś…Administration and payment of panel attorney invoices and correspondence,
âś…Assessing merits of legal cases for the purposes of legal advice to policy holders and/or for
ascertaining whether member qualifies for litigation cover (product knowledge);
âś…Managing litigation exclusions in cooperation with the Head of Department and in accordance
with the guidelines provided by the Legal Policy;
âś…Verification of policy payment history monthly;
âś…Organising referrals/instructions to accredited panel attorneys, where necessary;
âś…Follow rejection/exclusion procedures in accordance with the legal policy and as required by
law, as well as in terms of the SLA set out in the Claim Policy;
âś…Proper administration of his/her file load of pending case files; and diarising system;
âś…Attending to call backs to policy holders, received via tasks on Lawyerly or other client communication platforms.

📝Qualifications:

📌Grade 12 certification,
📌LLB degree, admission as an attorney or advocate is advantageous,
📌Ability to speak, write and understand two official African languages of which English or Afrikaans
should be one OR both,
📌Computer literate, excellent communication skills and initiative,
📌Excellent team player,
📌Able to work without supervision,
📌Positive and motivated individual,
📌Proactive and able to take initiative
