Lifeguard

Position Summary:

The Lifeguard for Kent County Parks & Recreation is responsible for ensuring the safety of pool patrons by monitoring water activities, enforcing pool rules, and providing First Aid when necessary. Lifeguards are expected to maintain a clean and safe pool environment, assist with swim lessons, and respond quickly to any emergencies. This position requires strong communication skills, the ability to work in a team, and knowledge of water safety procedures. Lifeguards must also adhere to the policies and procedures set forth by the pool's management and the Department of Health.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Monitor the pool area and ensure the safety of all patrons by enforcing pool rules and regulations.

Administer First Aid and CPR as needed in emergency situations.

Assist with maintaining the cleanliness of the pool facility, grounds, and equipment.

Follow and enforce policies, procedures, and regulations as outlined in the policy manual.

Assist with swimming lessons and provide support to swim instructors.

Respond to emergencies and ensure proper emergency response procedures are followed.

Maintain a professional and friendly demeanor while interacting with pool patrons.

Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Position Requirements: 

Must be at least 15 years of age

Current Lifeguard Certification and First Aid & CPR for the Professional Rescuer required.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to travel between Kent County pool locations (Betterton, Millington, Worton, and Rock Hall). Preferred.

Available to work weekends and holidays throughout the summer season (Memorial Day to Labor Day).

Must demonstrate swimming endurance (minimum 500 meters).

Work Environment & Physical Demands: 

Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds as needed.

Maintain swimming endurance for a minimum distance of 500 meters.

Perform routine cleaning and upkeep of the pool, surrounding facilities, and equipment.

Climb ladders, perform rescues, and respond effectively to emergency situations.

Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, rain, and wind.

Demonstrate proficiency in all skills outlined in the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Manual, including water rescues, CPR, and first aid.
