Position Summary
The Licensed Veterinary Technician supports research operations by performing technical procedures, assisting with study activities, and ensuring high standards of animal care. This role works closely with study coordinators and researchers in a hands-on, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Research & Technical Support
Assist with study activities and technical procedures following established protocols
Handle and restrain animals as directed
Observe and report changes in animal health, behavior, and consumption patterns
Collect specimens (e.g., blood, parasites, microbiological swabs) for analysis
Accurately record and maintain study and animal health data
Animal Care & Facility Support
Administer medications and treatments
Prepare and manage feeds and specialized diets
Provide pre- and post-operative care
Receive, transport, and/or ship animals
Feed, water, groom, and exercise animals
Clean and sanitize animal rooms, cages, and equipment
Transfer animals, supplies, and equipment as needed
Qualifications
Active New York State Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) required
Laboratory animal or research experience preferred, but not required
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs regularly
Ability to stand and remain active for an 8-hour shift
Comfortable working in a hands-on environment with animals and sanitation duties
Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
Must be fit for duty and able to work safely
Schedule & Work Environment
Full-time, 40 hours per week
Typical schedule: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Alternating weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed
Compensation & Benefits
Salary negotiable; based on experience
Health, dental, and vision insurance (employee coverage starting at $0.01 per pay)
401(k) with company match up to 5%
3 weeks of PTO in the first year (increases with tenure)
