Position Overview:
Typical Level 2 Mechanical Technician (Rotating & Static Equipment) skill set. This aligns with NVQ / apprenticeship / vocational Level 2 standards used in maintenance, manufacturing, oil & gas, utilities, and heavy industry.
Key Responsibilities:
• Basic maintenance of:
• Pumps (centrifugal / positive displacement)
• Motors
• Gearboxes
• Fans and compressors
• Bearing removal and installation
• Shaft alignment (basic methods)
• Belt and chain drives (inspection, tensioning, replacement)
• Lubrication techniques and schedules
• Vibration awareness (not analysis)
• Safe isolation and startup procedures
• Static Equipment
• Maintenance of:
• Valves (manual and basic actuated)
• Pipework and fittings
• Pressure vessels (inspection awareness)
• Heat exchangers (basic cleaning/inspection)
• Gasket removal and replacement
• Flange assembly and bolt tightening methods
• Leak detection and reporting
• Corrosion awareness and basic prevention methods
• Tools & Workshop Skills
• Correct use of hand tools and power tools
• Measuring equipment (vernier calliper’s, micrometres, feeler gauges)
• Workshop practices:
• Drilling
• Cutting
• Grinding
• Threading
• Basic fabrication and fitting
• Tool inspection and care

• Risk assessments and method statements (RAMS)
• Lock-out / Tag-out (LOTO)
• Manual handling

• Environmental awareness (waste oils, spills)
• Following maintenance procedures
• Accurate job reporting and documentation
