Job Description

We are looking for our next Legal Assistant.

What we do.

Richmond Vona, LLC is a personal injury law firm located in Buffalo, NY, that’s changing the game for both client and employee experience. We’re setting a new standard in how personal injury law is practiced and delivered.

Our mission is to provide a superior level of service to our clients through personal connection and continuous communication, while also creating a high potential, rewarding workplace for our dedicated team. We’ve been recognized as one of Inc. 5000’s Best Workplaces in America and named one of the Fastest-Growing Private Companies—ranking as the 4th fastest-growing law firm in the country. Locally, we’ve also been honored as a Buffalo Business First Best Places to Work. These awards reflect our commitment to building something different for both our clients and our people.

This is a rare opportunity to be part of a different kind of law firm that values communication, precision, and people, and offers tremendous opportunity for professional growth and fulfillment.

Who we are looking for.

We are seeking a Legal Assistant who is excited to grow into a Case Manager role over the next six to twelve months. This position is designed as a development opportunity for someone who wants to build a long-term career in personal injury law with Richmond Vona.

You will report to and sit alongside an experienced Case Manager and receive hands-on training, mentorship, and progressive responsibility. Depending on experience and readiness, you may begin as a floater supporting multiple cases or transitioning into managing a defined caseload as you grow into the role.

We have an excellent team in place and are committed to ensuring that the new member aligns with our firm’s core values of Winning, Always Ready, Professionalism, Precision, High-Level Communication, Accountability, and Service. We are dedicated to providing our team with the support and resources they need to succeed.

To be considered qualified, candidates should possess the following at a minimum:

A compassionate, team-oriented mindset with a genuine interest in helping injured clients.

The ability to work independently, think critically, ask thoughtful questions, and approach problems with curiosity.

Strong technological and organizational skills, a willingness to learn new systems and processes.

Clear and effective interpersonal and communication skills.

The ability to remain composed, adaptable, and accountable in a fast-paced professional environment.

At least one year of experience working in a professional office environment.

Prior experience as a legal assistant in plaintiff’s personal injury or personal injury defense is helpful, but we are equally focused on aptitude, coachability, and long-term potential.

We're looking for candidates excited about learning and growing with us as we build something new and different together. If you believe you exemplify our core values, we encourage you to apply, even if you don't meet the preferred experience or educational requirements.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Support Case Managers and Litigation Paralegals with day-to-day case work, documentation and follow-through.

Prepare case documents and forms using firm templates, ensuring accuracy and completeness prior to review.

Assist with obtaining and organizing case materials such as police reports, incident reports, medical records, FOIL requests, and other supporting documentation.

Review and notate medical records to understand treatment, timelines, and key facts relevant to the case.

Communicate with clients to gather information, provide updates, and help manage expectations.

Coordinate case-related tasks such as scheduling, correspondence, and follow-ups.

Handle routine insurance communications with appropriate oversight and escalate issues when necessary.

Learn and apply foundational personal injury concepts including insurance coverage, no-fault, and lost wage claims.

Take on increased responsibility over time with the goal of independently managing cases as a Case Manager.

What we offer you that’s different.

Compensation: Hourly rate of $20.00–$22.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications, with room for growth and regular performance reviews. Bonuses tied to firm profitability. Highly qualified candidates with directly relevant experience may be considered above the posted range.

Generous benefits: Includes 100% coverage of a single plan for medical and dental insurance, life insurance, as well as short-term and long-term supplemental disability. We also offer vision insurance, accident insurance, a 401(k) with firm contribution, weekly and monthly team awards and recognition, summer hours, free onsite parking, and abundant paid time off. Our benefits package is regularly re-evaluated and continues to grow as part of our mission to provide an exceptional experience for both clients and team members.

Career progression: This role is intentionally structured as a pathway into a Case Manager position. For high performing team members who demonstrate mastery of core responsibilities, sound judgment, and alignment with firm values, advancement typically occurs within 6 to 12 months. Growth is supported through hands on training, mentorship, and progressively increased responsibility. Advancement is performance based and not automatic.

Work hours: Generally, Monday through Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm, with built-in flexibility and summer hours. After six months of successful performance, team members may be eligible for one remote workday per week, subject to role needs and manager approval.

Location: Beautiful newly renovated office space located downtown (parking available onsite, at no charge).

Career opportunities: We are growing rapidly and joining us at this stage offers the opportunity to grow alongside the firm. As we expand, new roles and opportunities frequently arise. If you’re eager to learn and take on new challenges, we will support and encourage your development.

Work culture: We are highly growth and team oriented, which means that although we believe in working hard together, we also prioritize celebrating that effort and progress. We’ve built a beautiful, fun, and comfortable workspace for our staff to enjoy each day, and we have regular in-office and off-site team-building events and happy hours to ensure we are keeping it all in perspective.

Supportive onboarding and training: We provide a structured training program designed to help new hires settle in, feel confident, and gain independence in their role. You won’t be left to figure things out alone — our process is built to ensure you understand what’s expected and feel comfortable asking questions as you learn.

This is a unique, high-potential opportunity with a firm that values a positive, rewarding workplace culture.
