How You’ll Help Us Better Service Our Clients
We are seeking a Legal Assistant to support a litigation-focused practice. You’ll play a key role in keeping files moving efficiently while providing high-quality administrative and legal support. Your day-to-day responsibilities will primarily support litigation matters, with opportunities to assist on Wills & Estates and estate litigation files as needed. This role is 100% on site. This role is a maternity leave cover of 18 months.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Legal Assistant supporting a litigation-focused practice, you’ll play a key role in keeping files moving efficiently while providing high-quality administrative and legal support. Your day-to-day responsibilities will primarily support litigation matters, with opportunities to assist on Wills & Estates and estate litigation files as needed.
Key responsibilities include but not limited to:
Managing litigation files from opening to closing, including maintaining accurate file organization and bring-forward systems
Scheduling court dates, discoveries, and examinations, and liaising with court registries
Preparing, formatting, and arranging court filings and applications
Drafting and preparing correspondence and legal documents, including pleadings
Managing lawyers’ calendars, emails, and active file lists
Liaising with clients, opposing counsel, registries, paralegals, and other legal assistants regarding file progress
Preparing monthly billings and assisting with time entry as required
Conducting probate registry searches and MYLTSA title searches (as applicable to estate-related files)
Providing general administrative and practice support to ensure files move forward efficiently and deadlines are met
How You’ll Be a Great Fit for This Role
You are highly organized, detail-oriented, and thrive in a fast-paced litigation environment. You take initiative, manage competing priorities with confidence, and bring a client-focused mindset to everything you do.
The ideal candidate will have:
Graduation from a recognized Legal Administrative Assistant program, or equivalent relevant experience
A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Legal Assistant, with a strong focus on litigation
Solid understanding of BC civil litigation practices and procedures
Strong familiarity with the BC Supreme Court Civil Rules
Experience in insurance defense or estate litigation is considered an asset
Working knowledge of probate processes and registries is an asset
Strong technical proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe, BC Online, and MYLTSA
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail
Ability to manage a high volume of work and shifting priorities while meeting strict deadlines
A client-centered approach with a commitment to providing outstanding service
Professional judgment, discretion, and the ability to maintain confidentiality
Flexibility and adaptability in response to changing demands and deadlines
