Job Description

Who We Are

At Boughton Law, we do things differently.

Specializing in creative, outside-of-the-box solutions for a wide range of legal challenges, we believe in gaining a deep understanding of our clients’ needs and objectives to better deliver expert legal advice.

We’re currently expanding our team and building a strong, dynamic group with diverse ideas and backgrounds, focused on making an impact for our clients and our community.

Who We Are Looking For

We are currently seeking an experienced Legal Administrative Assistant (Litigation) to join our team. This is an important and high-responsibility role supporting senior litigation counsel in a busy, fast-paced practice.

This position is best suited to someone who is confident, proactive, and highly organized, with a strong sense of urgency and follow-through. The successful candidate will be someone who enjoys being relied upon, takes ownership of tasks, and is comfortable working in a traditional, high-touch practice environment where strong communication, responsiveness, and attention to detail are essential.

While this role is primarily focused on LAA responsibilities, it may also include some paralegal-level tasks depending on the candidate’s skill set and experience. This is not a traditional billing-focused paralegal role, but rather a hybrid support position for someone who enjoys variety and is capable of handling both administrative and more substantive file-related work.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a wide range of legal administrative and litigation support, including:

Preparing correspondence, faxes, and documents using digital dictation, email instructions, copy typing, and handwritten notes (Word and Outlook)

Drafting standard letters, pleadings, and court documents using precedents

Managing court filing deadlines and coordinating hearing dates

Scheduling trials, discoveries, and related litigation steps, and preparing required documentation

Preparing pleadings, affidavits, lists of documents, and document briefs

Opening files and maintaining electronic and physical filing systems

Maintaining bring-forward systems to ensure timely follow-up and receipt of requested materials

Preparing invoices and posting time (Acumin accounting software)

Performing other related duties as required

Qualifications

Graduate of a Legal Administrative Assistant Program

Minimum 4 to 5 years of experience as a Legal Administrative Assistant in a litigation practice

Strong working knowledge of litigation procedures and court processes

Experience with Provincial Court and Supreme Court matters

Familiarity with the Rules of Court

Familiarity with insolvency is an asset

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Strong English oral and written communication skills

Excellent organizational and time management skills

Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines

Ability to work independently, take initiative, and exercise good judgment

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with clients, lawyers, and staff

A professional, confident presence and the ability to work effectively in a busy, high-expectation environment

What We Offer

We offer a supportive and professional environment with a strong team culture. The salary range for this position is $55,400 to $87,700, with final compensation determined based on experience and reflective of the demands and scope of the role.
