We are seeking experienced and passionate lecturers to deliver a range of postgraduate units in the Master of Public Health program at La Trobe University Sydney Campus in 2026. The successful candidates will play a key role in providing high-quality, engaging, and innovative learning experiences that support student success and progression.
The position requires expertise across core public health disciplines, including health promotion, epidemiology, biostatistics, health systems, policy development, and social and cultural determinants of health. The role demands strong capabilities in teaching and applying evidence-based public health practice, systems thinking, leadership, critical analysis, research literacy, communication, stakeholder engagement, and the design, implementation, and evaluation of public health initiatives and policy in diverse and complex settings.
PHE5HHS Health Systems
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Australian health system including structure, financing, policy, and governance
• Familiarity with international and global health systems, with the ability to teach and compare health system models across different country contexts
PHE5PSP Health Promotion Strategy and Practice
• Demonstrated expertise in health promotion practice, including the ability to operationalise socio-ecological approaches, settings-based strategies, and upstream determinants into interventions and/or policy contexts
• Demonstrated knowledge of core health promotion principles and frameworks, including the World Health Organization’s Ottawa Charter, and the ability to explain and critically apply these foundations in teaching
• Capacity to teach and critique health promotion strategies beyond individual behaviour change, including environmental, policy, and systems-level interventions
PHE5STL System Thinking and Leadership
• Understanding of systems thinking concepts, approaches, and methodologies, including the capacity to engage with and teach multiple systems thinking frameworks
• Knowledge of research methodologies, including qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods approaches
• Familiarity with interdisciplinary approaches to analysing complex systems and challenges
• Ability to teach and facilitate learning in systems thinking and related methodological approaches
• Demonstrated capability to understand, learn, and effectively communicate diverse methods and frameworks to students
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, particularly in applying mixed methods and research-informed approaches to complex problems
• Experience in teaching research methods and supporting students to apply methodological approaches in practice
PHE5PHR Public Health Responses
• Demonstrated expertise in public health emergency management - environmental health, climate change, disaster preparedness, pandemics, surveillance, or risk management
• Ability to connect theory to practice through the use of contemporary case studies, scenario-based learning, and interdisciplinary perspectives
• Knowledge of communication models including TRA, STP, CERC, RCCE, among others
 
Responsibilities include:
• Deliver lectures/workshop/tutorials, and learning activities for assigned units.
• Provide timely feedback and grading using rubrics, ensuring compliance with moderation requirements.
• Maintain accurate attendance records and report at-risk students.
• Engage in professional development and collaborate with colleagues to enhance teaching practices.
• Participate in meetings with Subject Coordinators and Academic Manager.
• Foster an inclusive, communicative, and supportive learning environment.
Essential
• PhD in Education or a closely related field.
• Tertiary teaching qualifications or minimum 5 years of teaching experience (compliant with TEQSA requirements).
• Demonstrated experience delivering classes in a tertiary-level education environment.
• Proven ability to develop and implement innovative teaching and learning strategies.
• Strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
• Experience using Learning Management Systems (LMS) for course delivery and student engagement.
Desirable
• Experience teaching in a multicultural education environment.
• Familiarity with digital learning tools and emerging educational technologies.
