About the Role: We are seeking a Lecturer in IT with a strong focus on Cyber Security or Software Development to coordinate and deliver IT subjects within courses offered by the School of Computing, Mathematics and Engineering at Charles Sturt University Melbourne. This role has a clear focus on Software Development, ensuring subject content and assessment are aligned with course learning outcomes and broader institutional academic standards. In this role, you will deliver high-quality, student-centred learning experiences through subject coordination, teaching, and academic support, with particular emphasis on Software Development. You will play a key role in equipping students with contemporary knowledge and practical skills in this rapidly evolving field, while fostering engagement and academic success within an inclusive and culturally safe learning environment for all students, including First Nations students. Working collaboratively with academic and professional staff across campuses, you will contribute to curriculum delivery in Cyber Security or Software Development and related disciplines, support teaching teams, uphold academic integrity, and implement strategies that drive positive student learning outcomes. This is a face-to-face teaching position based at Melbourne campus.
Key Responsibilities:
• Deliver a full-time teaching load, with workload and subjects determined on a semester basis.
• Deliver student centred learning experiences in IT (Cyber Security or Software Development) subjects using a range of methods, including lectures, tutorials, workshops, group activities, and assessments.
• Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment that values diversity and promotes student engagement.
• Engage in reflective teaching practices by incorporating feedback from students and peers to continuously enhance learning and teaching effectiveness.
• Ensure quality assurance standards are met for subjects and courses, in line with Charles Sturt University policies, procedures, and code of conduct.
• Provide academic guidance, mentoring, and support to students to assist them in achieving their learning goals and developing effective study strategies.
• Assess student work accurately and fairly, undertake marking and grading responsibilities, provide timely and constructive feedback, and maintain appropriate academic records.
• Engage in scholarly activities in line with the Charles Sturt University Scholarly Activity Framework, integrating contemporary knowledge and research informed practices into teaching.
• Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching effectiveness and demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement.
• Stay informed of current developments, emerging trends, and innovations in the Cyber Security or Software Development (IT) field and apply these to curriculum delivery and student learning outcomes.
Qualifications and selection criteria
• A PhD in Information Technology or Computer Science with focus on Cyber Security or Software Development, and membership with ACS and other relevant professional bodies.
• Demonstrated experience in teaching IT and Cyber Security or Software Development subjects, preferably at the university level, including experience in assessing students effectively.
• Relevant professional or industry experience in Cyber Security or Software Development field that informs teaching and learning practices.
• Comprehensive understanding of IT and Cyber Security or Software Development concepts, principles, emerging trends, and related issues, with awareness of best practices in creating inclusive learning environments.
• Evidence of a demonstrated commitment to delivering high quality, student focused learning experiences, including adapting teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively and independently with colleagues, students, and administrators to foster an inclusive and supportive educational community. Strong communication, presentation, and classroom management skills are essential.
• Understanding of and commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in education, including working effectively in diverse and inclusive environments.
• Membership in relevant professional associations, a track record of scholarship or advanced professional practice, and familiarity with varied teaching methods. Certifications and practical knowledge of software’s will be an advantage.
