Lead Landscape Technician
Job Description
Supervises
Provides leadership and training to Landscape Technicians as assigned.
The person hired will perform and oversee a variety of landscaping duties within a specified client contract (which may change), including the operation of appropriate equipment for planting, fertilizing, pruning, mowing, and other landscaping, maintenance, or grounds-keeping activities as needed.
Performance Responsibilities and Essential Duties
Crew Management: Direct and supervise a team of 2–4 technicians, ensuring all tasks are completed according to the daily schedule and quality standards.
Quality Control: Inspect completed properties to ensure mowing, edging, weeding, and pruning meet company specifications before leaving the site.
Equipment Oversight: Responsible for the daily inventory, maintenance, and safe operation of trucks, trailers, and heavy machinery (e.g., zero-turn mowers, skid steers).
Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate digital or paper logs of hours worked, chemicals applied, and any property issues encountered.
Training: Provide on-the-job training for junior technicians regarding safety protocols and proper horticultural techniques.
Client Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients on-site, addressing concerns and communicating progress professionally.
Assist General Manager in scheduling and performing landscape activities and day-to-day grounds maintenance.
Perform maintenance of lawns and landscaped areas; plant and transplant trees, shrubs, and other plants.
Treat and/or dispose of dead and diseased plant materials using appropriate tools and chemicals.
Assist in irrigation system diagnosis and maintenance.
Assist in weed abatement and scheduling.
Mow, trim, and edge designated areas; prune trees and shrubs; spray and fertilize as needed.
Assist in maintenance and repair of equipment; perform daily preventative maintenance and report needed repairs.
Operate all equipment responsibly and safely.
Maintain accurate and timely records of time, labor, and materials.
Pick up and dispose of garbage, trash, and wastepaper.
Keep assigned areas orderly.
Report damage to structures and equipment to the management immediately.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, leads, and other employees.
Complete work assignments without close supervision.
Complete all projects to company standards.
May be assigned other duties as required.
May be required to work after hours and on weekends as necessary.
May be required to perform duties on a shift work schedule.
Qualifications
High school graduate or GED equivalent.
Three (3) years of experience in landscaping, building services trade, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Must be insurable as determined by Human Resources into private and business driving records within any three-year time frame.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge Of
Methods and equipment associated with landscaping and grounds maintenance (e.g., chainsaws, hand saws, pruners, hedge shears, roto-tillers, sprayers, shovels, rakes, hoes, tampers, lawn mowers, blowers, etc.).
Ability to adapt to additional equipment as assigned.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operator manuals, attendance instructions, and district procedures manuals.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Computer Skills
General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use email, internet software, and word processing software.
Must use technology to communicate, produce and maintain reports, and correspond with management and clients.
Physical Requirements
Frequently required to sit, walk, or stand for long periods.
Physical strength, agility, dexterity, acuity, reflexes, ability to grasp, push, pull, lift, and have mobility to perform job responsibilities.
Able to perform work requiring physical exertion, heavy lifting, and continuous standing.
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and push or pull up to 100 pounds.
Specific vision abilities: close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Must hear and speak to exchange information.
Work Environment
May work outside for long periods in temperatures above 100º or below 32º.
May be exposed to dust, fumes, and traffic hazards.
Tasks often performed under adverse weather conditions.
Must meet deadlines within time constraints and interact with the public and other workers.
May be exposed to loud noise levels.
