Lead Software Engineer (Legacy & Modern Systems)

Overview

This is a high-impact leadership position requiring a product-first technical mindset. You will be responsible for the stewardship of Moneyboat’s entire technical ecosystem.

This role is a unique hybrid - leading the continued development of our modern Go/Temporal microservices while also acting as the primary guardian and domain expert for our core legacy Laravel monolith.

The ideal candidate is not just a coder, but a systems thinker who will become the ultimate Subject Matter Expert (SME) on how money flows through our platform.

Key responsibilities

Systems Duality: Balance the scaling of new services (built in Go) with the maintenance and strategic decomposition of the legacy Laravel (PHP) monolith.

Product SME: Deep-dive into the "Moneyboat" business logic. You will be the person who understands the why behind the data, becoming the bridge between technical execution and product strategy.

Architectural Migration: Lead the transition from the monolith to a "Contract-First" microservice architecture without disrupting existing business operations.

Workflow & Contract Management: Oversee complex financial state machines in Temporal and maintain strict API integrity via OpenAPI/oapi-codegen.

Infrastructure & DevOps: Manage environment-isolated infrastructure using Terraform and ensure stability through a robust Trunk-Based Development workflow.

Technical Requirements

Polyglot Expertise: Production-level experience in Go (for the future) and PHP/Laravel (for the foundation).

Architecture: Proven experience managing "distributed monolith" risks and a deep commitment to service isolation and clean boundaries.

Complex Workflows: Experience with orchestration engines (Temporal preferred) or complex event-driven systems.

Legacy Refactoring: A proven track record of maintaining and modernizing large-scale legacy codebases without sacrificing reliability.
