Required Skills
Job Description
Company:
David creates tools to increase muscle and decrease fat. Our first product is a protein bar. More broadly, David is a platform to develop high-protein, low-calorie, blood-sugar-friendly foods that are craveable.
This is a compelling opportunity to join an exciting new food brand as we enter a critical growth stage. David is led by CEO Peter Rahal, the Cofounder and Former CEO of RXBAR ($600M exit to Kellogg in 2017). We have strong aspirations to become the most popular high-protein bar in North America and beyond.
Role and Responsibilities:
As David's first in-house technical ecommerce hire, you will serve as both the primary executor and the strategic leader for our ecommerce platform, owning the architecture, performance, and long-term scalability of our Shopify ecosystem.
This role will report to the Senior Director of Customer Experience, and requires both strong frontend execution and backend systems fluency. You will be hands-on in the codebase daily while providing the technical leadership required to manage external partners and think strategically about customer experience, conversion, and business impact.
Full Stack Development and Architecture
• Own the architecture of David’s Shopify 2.0 theme and broader commerce stack, including frontend structure, backend integrations, and data flow across systems.
• Design and implement effective features and functionality across collection pages, PDPs, cart, subscriptions, and checkout extensibility.
• Write high-quality Liquid, JavaScript, and API-driven code, while also managing Shopify Admin, Storefront, and Ajax API integrations.
• Evaluate and rationalize third-party apps, scripts, and integrations to reduce technical debt and protect storefront performance.
Growth and Performance Optimization
• Maintain best-in-class Core Web Vitals to ensure site speed remains a primary driver of conversion and organic search performance, especially during high-traffic periods.
• Build and maintain a modular section-based library that empowers the CX team to launch high-velocity CRO tests without degrading core site performance or creating technical debt.
• Ensure technical decisions improve customer experience, conversion rate, retention, and subscription growth.
Technical Leadership and Governance
• Act as the 'Technical Source of Truth' for all external partners, conducting rigorous code reviews and setting the standards for multi-contributor GitHub branching, documentation, and QA.
• Provide architectural oversight to outsourced developers and agency partners.
• Define and implement our internal technical roadmap, translating complex business requirements into scalable, documented technical solutions.
• Document standards and create guardrails to support future scale.
Requirements:
• Deep Shopify Expertise: 5+ years of expert-level experience with high volume ecommerce stores in the Shopify Plus ecosystem, with a mastery of Liquid, JSON templates, and OS 2.0 architecture.
• Technical Versatility: You’ve worked in fast-moving environments where you defined the work while doing the work. You are comfortable with infrastructure setup one day and frontend CSS polish the next.
• Systems Fluency: Proven ability to manage complex data flows across Shopify APIs (Admin, Storefront, Ajax) and integrate with backend systems like ERPs and 3PLs.
• Technical Governance: Must be proficient in managing deployments within multi-contributor Git environments.
• Product Intuition: A strong understanding of the "why" behind the "how", recognizing how technical trade-offs impact customer experience and business goals.
• Humble, self-aware, and curious
• A desire to build an early stage CPG company with a mission to help people increase muscle and decrease fat
Benefits:
• This is a full-time role.
• Salary: $145,000 - $185,000 per year, inclusive of cash bonus based on attainment of company targets
• Company equity opportunity
• 100% covered Health, Vision, Dental Insurance
• 401(k) with 4% match
• Additional perks, such as covered gym expenses
• Substantial and required PTO
• We work in the office 5 days per week in New York City – when culture lines up, it is fun to be in the office together.
