Lead Design Consultant

We’re looking for a hands-on product design generalist who can work side-by-side with our developers and clients to deliver meaningful, high-impact digital solutions. In this role, you’ll often be the solo designer (or paired with one other) embedded into cross-functional teams tackling complex customer problems end-to-end, from discovery to delivery.
This role is perfect for someone who loves switching between strategy, research, UX design, interface design, and product thinking, and who thrives in environments where they can shape outcomes directly with engineers and stakeholders.
About the Role
As a Lead Design Consultant, you will play a pivotal role in shaping customer experiences and driving growth through creativity and design thinking. You will work across the full design lifecycle: research, discovery, UX, UI, prototyping, and handover.
Collaborate closely with developers, product managers, data/AI specialists, and clients to shape solutions and ensure smooth delivery.
Operate confidently as a solo designer within a multidisciplinary project team.
Facilitate workshops and discovery activities to unpack customer needs and business goals.
Translate insights into actionable concepts, user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity designs.
Embed human-centred design practices into projects large and small.
Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Contribute to proposals and pre-sales conversations when needed.

What You’ll Do
Drive end-to-end design on real client projects, working from problem definition all the way through to polished UX/UI ready for development.
Work in close partnership with engineering teams to ensure designs are feasible and translated effectively into the final product.
Balance strategic thinking with detail-oriented execution.
Create artefacts such as journey maps, user flows, wireframes, prototypes, UI designs, and design systems components.
Facilitate design workshops, research sessions, and validation testing.
Bring clarity to ambiguous briefs and help clients shape direction.
Contribute to internal and external design initiatives, sharing knowledge through mentoring, Lunch & Learns, or the Versent Tech Blog.
What We’re Looking For
4–8+ years’ experience in UX/UI, product design, or service design.
Comfort working end-to-end: research strategy UX UI.
Experience working as the sole designer in a delivery team.
Strong facilitation and communication skills.
Ability to collaborate deeply with engineers and product stakeholders.
Comfortable with ambiguity and shaping a direction where little exists.
Portfolio demonstrating practical, real-world delivery, not just concepts.
