Ever wondered what it feels like to be a Lead Data Engineer in Netcompany ?
Joining us as a Lead Data Engineer, you will lead a small team of Cloud Data Management and Data Lake Engineers in our Data Intelligence & AI practice, designing and delivering cloud-native data lakes, lakehouses and medallion-architecture solutions on Azure, AWS and/or Databricks. This is a hands-on technical leadership role: you will stay close to the code, drive engineering quality, and embed AI coding assistants and agentic workflows into how the team works — while mentoring the engineers you lead and taking full ownership of client engagement delivery.
As a Lead Data Engineer you will:
• Lead a small team of Cloud Data Management and Data Lake Engineers towards the delivery of client engagements — planning, prioritisation, code reviews, mentoring and growth.
• Own delivery of your engagements end-to-end: scope, estimates, milestones, risks, quality and client communication.
• Design and build cloud-native data lakes and lakehouses (Delta Lake, Apache Iceberg) using medallion architecture on Azure, AWS and/or Databricks.
• Build and maintain robust ELT/ETL pipelines, data models, and data quality / observability controls, orchestrated with tools such as Apache Airflow, Prefect, Dagster or Databricks Workflows.
• Adopt and promote AI coding assistants, agentic workflows and LLM-based accelerators inside your team to improve productivity and quality.
• Support the Senior Manager on solution design, technical estimations and pre-sales activities; align with sector / account stakeholders.
• Collaborate with AI/ML, BI and application teams so that what you deliver serves analytics, AI and operational use cases.
• Apply engineering best practices: version control, CI/CD for data, IaC, DataOps, security and governance.
What would make you a fit for the role:
• 6+ years of experience in data engineering / cloud data management, including experience leading a delivery team in a technical lead capacity.
• Hands-on expertise with at least one major cloud data platform — Azure, AWS or Databricks — including data lake / lakehouse design and medallion architecture.
• Strong SQL and Python skills, plus solid experience with ELT/ETL, data modelling and Spark (or equivalent distributed processing).
• Hands-on experience with orchestration tools (Apache Airflow, Prefect, Dagster or Databricks Workflows) and with open table formats such as Delta Lake or Apache Iceberg.
• Practical experience designing for performance, cost, security and data quality in cloud environments.
• Track record of delivering cloud data lake / lakehouse engagements in production.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, and a coaching mindset for the engineers you lead.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Data Science or a related field.
It would also be a plus if you match some of the following:
• Experience with dbt for in-warehouse / in-lakehouse transformations and modelling.
• Hands-on use of AI coding assistants and agentic AI tools (e.g. Claude Code, Copilot-class tools, LLM-based agents) to accelerate data engineering work.
• Awareness of GenAI / ML enablement patterns on top of data lakes and lakehouses — feature stores, vector stores (e.g. pgvector, Pinecone, Weaviate, Databricks Vector Search) and RAG.
• Familiarity with data governance platforms (Unity Catalog, Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Atlan or similar) and responsible-AI considerations when feeding AI use cases.
• Exposure to Microsoft Fabric or other emerging unified data platforms.
• Experience with BI tooling (Power BI, Tableau, Qlik) and serving analytics layers on top of data platforms.
• Streaming technologies (Kafka, Spark Structured Streaming, Auto Loader, CDC patterns), Kubernetes, microservices, IBM Cloud Pak for Data.
• DevOps / DataOps tooling and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Bicep).
• Relevant certifications (e.g. Azure Data Engineer Associate, AWS Data Analytics / Data Engineer, Databricks Certified Data Engineer).
