We are seeking an experienced Lead Carpenter to support residential construction and renovation projects in Montpelier, Vermont. This role is ideal for a skilled carpenter who can lead job-site activities while contributing hands-on expertise in framing, finish carpentry, and residential construction tasks.
The Lead Carpenter will coordinate daily site operations, guide carpentry crews, and ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and with high-quality workmanship. This position is well suited for a construction professional who enjoys working in the field while maintaining responsibility for job-site organization and project progress.
Responsibilities
• Perform hands-on carpentry work including framing, finish carpentry, trim installation, and general construction tasks
• Lead and coordinate carpentry crews on residential construction and remodeling projects
• Interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and project specifications
• Assist with scheduling and coordinating subcontractors and specialty trades
• Manage job-site logistics including materials, tools, and equipment organization
• Ensure projects meet quality standards and project specifications
• Maintain job-site safety and ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety procedures
• Troubleshoot field issues and implement practical solutions to keep projects on schedule
• Communicate project progress and job-site updates with project managers and leadership
Requirements:
• 5+ years of experience in residential construction or carpentry
• Strong background in framing, finish carpentry, and residential building methods
• Experience leading crews or supervising carpentry teams on job sites
• Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and construction plans
• Strong knowledge of construction tools, equipment, and safety practices
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain organized job sites
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Preferred Experience
• Experience with high-end residential homes or custom remodeling projects
• Background coordinating subcontractors or managing small construction crews
• Familiarity with construction scheduling and project coordination
• OSHA safety training or certifications
