Lead Analyst – Australian Industrial Decarbonisation (Australia – Remote)
The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) is seeking an experienced professional to oversee IEEFA’s research on the Australian Industrial Decarbonisation sector as a Lead Analyst.
The Lead Analyst will oversee IEEFA’s research on Australian industry (outside of the iron and steel sector). We are looking for an experienced analyst with deep knowledge of the industry sector’s energy transition and hands-on experience in financial analysis and policy influencing. The analyst would have a good understanding of opportunities and challenges involved in decarbonizing Australia’s industrial sectors, the technologies available and their financial outlook.
They would have experience developing evidence-based and narrative-led reports to influence government and finance stakeholders and be comfortable representing their research in the media. They would be self-motivated in pursuit of excellence, collaborative to lead the team and flexible to be effective. Ideally, the position will be based in Western Australia and lead IEEFA’s engagement with stakeholders in the state.
IEEFA is an NGO/ not-for-profit that conducts research and analysis on financial and economic issues related to energy markets, trends, and policies. Headquartered in the United States, IEEFA has a team of 70+ analysts and communications personnel located in 16 countries across the globe. IEEFA produces a significant volume of original research, as well as ongoing analysis and reports on issues affecting energy industries. Responsibilities
Commitment to IEEFA’s mission to accelerate the transition to a diverse, sustainable, and profitable energy economy
Set a strategy for the workstream including strategic goals, a research plan and influencing approach and ensure that it is implemented
Conduct cutting-edge financial analysis, financial modelling, and market analysis with integrity to evaluate key market trends in industrial energy transition
Collect data from established datasets and credible sources, including horizon scanning for energy and finance news through articles, annual reports, investor presentations, and industry reports on global energy markets and investments
Structure, draft and review reports, submissions, press releases and presentations
Establish relationships and engage with relevant external stakeholders (e.g. investors, project partners, government departments) in Australia to influence policy and investment decisions
Contribute to disseminating research findings through active media and social media presence and representation of IEEFA at meetings and industry events
Work collaboratively with IEEFA colleagues in Australia and the region to ensure research alignment and effective communication approaches
Support fundraising efforts through the development of proposals and monitoring of impact

Required Qualifications
7+ years of demonstrated experience in energy or related field
A Master’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, engineering and/or with professional certifications (e.g. CFA) or appropriate and relevant market-oriented experience in lieu of those degrees
Proven ability to build and maintain strategic partnerships internally and externally to support organizational goals
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with sound political judgment when engaging media, finance, and government stakeholders
Demonstrated decision-making skills, including analyzing complex information, evaluating options, and implementing effective solutions
Excellent formal presentation skills, with the ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences
Experience in developing and supporting others to enhance skills, performance, and career growth
Strong track record of attention to detail and commitment to high-quality standards

Compensation and Benefits
Full-time employment contract with remuneration A$165,000 - A$190,000 base, plus super. Work Schedule
Full-time, 38 hours/week, with occasional evening or weekend work as required.
Location and Travel
Lead Analyst – Australian Industrial Decarbonisation will work remotely and may be based anywhere in Australia, ideally in Western Australia. Some travel is required. All global team members attend IEEFA’s annual conference and international team retreat. Quarterly in person team meetings alternate between Sydney and Melbourne.
Physical Demand and Work Environment.
Must be able to work for prolonged periods at a computer. Computer work can involve repetitive motion, eyestrain, back and neck strain.
