Lead AI Engineer

We’re looking for a Staff AI Product Engineer (Lead AI Engineer) to define and build the foundation of AI at Moxie.

This role exists to turn Moxie’s AI vision into durable, production-grade systems. You’ll design and ship agentic AI capabilities that directly power customer-facing product experiences and internal operational tooling, helping our customers operate more efficiently and helping Moxie scale without sacrificing trust or quality.

You’ll work closely with our CPO, Principal AI Product Manager, and senior engineers to translate product strategy into real systems in production. This is a highly hands-on senior IC role with broad technical ownership and influence — not a research role, and not a people manager role (at least initially).

As AI usage at Moxie grows, this role will establish the technical standards, patterns, and architecture that future AI engineers build upon.

Our Objectives for This Role

In the first 6–12 months, a successful hire will:

• Design and ship production-grade agentic AI systems that meaningfully improve customer workflows and internal operations.

• Establish a clear technical architecture for AI at Moxie, including agent orchestration, tool/function calling, memory/state management, safety guardrails, and observability.

• Create reliable evaluation and testing practices that allow us to measure, monitor, and continuously improve AI quality over time.

• Integrate AI deeply into the Moxie platform, ensuring AI systems are secure, resilient, cost-aware, and aligned with a regulated, trust-sensitive environment.

• Lay the technical foundation for a growing AI function, including standards, documentation, and mentorship for other engineers.

We’re Looking For Someone Who

• Has 8+ years of experience building and scaling complex software systems with real ownership of production outcomes.

• Has hands-on experience deploying and operating AI / LLM-backed systems in production, not just prototypes.

• Understands agentic system design, including tool use, orchestration, state/memory, guardrails, and failure modes.

• Brings strong software engineering fundamentals, including system design, APIs, data modeling, and testing.

• Is comfortable owning systems end-to-end — from design through deployment, monitoring, and iteration.

• Can partner closely with senior product and engineering leaders and clearly communicate technical tradeoffs.

Nice to have:

• Experience working in regulated or trust-sensitive domains (healthcare, fintech, compliance-heavy systems).

• Prior experience setting technical direction or standards across teams.

• Familiarity with data pipelines and analytics used for AI evaluation and monitoring.
