GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB:
A Teaching Assistant (TA), Research Assistant (RA), or Department Assistant (DA) at the
University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law plays a vital role in
supporting faculty and staff across multiple departments. This position is ideal for law students
who are detailed-oriented, tech-savvy, and/or possess strong research skills, especially in citation
and database management. These roles support the needs of academic projects, clinics, student
resources like the Writing Hub, and administrative tasks in departments such as Admissions,
Career Services, Financial Aid, Law Library, and the Registrar.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:
1) Instruction Support: Assist in delivering curriculum content, leading class discussions,
and setting up classrooms with necessary materials.
2) Research and Data Management: Collect data, manage databases, and assist with
academic projects, including verifying citations and Bluebooking.
3) Specialized Project Support:
a) Clinic Support: Bilingual students (especially fluent in Spanish) assist with
translation and interpretation.
b) Writing Hub: Serve as a mentor and facilitate citation workshops.
c) Legal Research Assistance: Support the needs of faculty research and
scholarship.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
1) Educational Requirement: Enrollment in the University of the District of Columbia
David A. Clarke School of Law
2) Experience:
a. Experience in data management, office documentation, and report preparation.

b. Coursework in research methods, strong Bluebooking skills, and academic
research experience are preferred.
3) Communication Skills: Ability to interact effectively with stakeholders and strong
verbal and written communication skills.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
1) Research and Technical Skills: Knowledge of database management, citation protocols
(Bluebooking), and academic writing.
2) Computer Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite and collaborative tools (Zoom,
MS Teams, Blackboard).
3) Language Requirement: For select roles, fluency in Spanish is preferred to support
interpretation and translation tasks.
4) Interpersonal Skills: Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
with a focus on collaboration and professionalism.
STANDARDS & EXPECTATIONS:
1) Professional Development: TAs and RAs are encouraged to engage in training and
activities to enhance their skills in teaching and research skills.
2) Physical Requirements: Primarily office-based work with occasional local travel to
support university events or academic needs.
