JOB SUMMARY
The Laundry Attendant Shift Leader at our LQA AAA 5 Diamond standard hotel, will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the laundry department alongside the manager to ensure the highest quality of service and cleanliness. This role involves leading the team of laundry attendants, managing laundry processes, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards consistent with our luxury brand.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Product
Sorts, checks, counts, weighs and records all dirty linen received in laundry.
Sort soiled articles according to type and treatment to be given; washes articles by machine or hand; dries articles by machine, by hanging them in a drying room or open air, or by placing them on heated metal forms; iron articles with heated iron or with a pressing machine.
Sort stains / damaged linen, place in bag with amount, item and date written on bag and store in designated area provided.
Operates computer-washers and dryers to wash and dry linen items according to operational and safety procedures.
Operate flatwork ironer to iron linen items according to operational and safety procedures. Adjusts ironer speed according to the linen items being processed and moisture content.
Sorts linens according to color, condition, and type of material.
Presses Restaurant linen and similar articles by hand.
Smoothes and shapes clothing, textile fabrics and similar articles by pressing with heated flat iron.
Arranges material on an ironing board or flat surface moistens material before and / or during pressing; moves iron over material, applying necessary heat and pressure to obtain desired effect.
Attend to the area where linen is stored and distributed and maintain cleanliness.
Ensures the main linen room and storage areas are constantly kept tidy.
Pack check-out/corridor bags for pick-up or delivery by Housemen for next day’s work.
Control the distribution of all articles, taking care to maintain adequate records of all articles distributed.
Receive chemicals from Supplier or Central Storeroom, ensuring all receipts are given to the Housekeeping/Rooms Care Manager / Supervisor.
Assist in taking monthly inventory stock-take.
Report any malfunctions to machines or unusual incidents occurring while on duty in laundry to Supervisor/Manager.
Check and maintain the security of storage areas.
Know how to operate all equipment used in the fulfillment of all duties.
Report any discrepancies found with linen or of similar nature. Log/document all issues of linen items
Sort stain/damage linen, place in linen bags with date, amount, and name of item.
Ensure all discarded linen is verified at the end of the month by the Housekeeping Manager.
Sort, count and record all linens received in laundry.
Clean all machines including removal of lint from dryers.
Inform Housekeeping/Rooms Care Manager/Supervisor of additional linen as may be required for the efficient operation of the Housekeeping Department.
Perform the specified duties at any of the properties of the Ocean Hotels Group.
Perform duties of Room-Attendant as required.
Assists in the lifting of heavy items in excess of 30lbs.

Service Efficiency
Attend Briefing; receive keys, supplies and materials from Supervisor.
Responsible for ongoing on the job training with new employees.
Respond to walk-in and telephone requests and provide or send items to the requestor.
Provides efficient, courteous customer service to all people while performing duties of Laundry Attendant.
Attends daily briefings, departmental or other meetings as required.
Works in a fast paced environment with time constraints and timing deadlines related to production standards and requirements.
Multitasking with linen in various machines running at the same time with different products.
Suggest methods for improving laundry efficiency.
Adheres to Company policies, standards, and procedures, including Health and Safety, Fire Prevention, Hygiene and Discipline.
In addition to the duties which this job normally entails, you will be required to be completely flexible in this position and must be prepared to undertake such other work as may be assigned to you by the Company from time to time. Such work can be done outside the area of your normal duties.
Training and Development
Commit to being cross trained in any aspect of the group’s operation or administration and attend training courses as agreed with Management, Human Resources Department, or your Supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
Knowledge
The Laundry Attendant must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:
Understand, speak, read, and write English at CXC level or equivalent.
Level 2 or above National Vocational Qualification in Housekeeping.
Skills
The Laundry Attendant must demonstrate the following skills:

Read and write English fluently.
Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
Must be neat, professional, and well groomed.
Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds (lifting above the shoulder is also required).

A positive attitude and outgoing personality are essential.
Must be able to work shifts (days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime).
