The Opportunity
Ambipar is seeking a Landfill Equipment Operator to support landfill operations while maintaining safety, compliance, and efficiency at the site.
Locations: Calgary, Red Deer, Youngstown, or Drumheller, AB
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
Supervise daily tipping face operations, including waste acceptance, traffic flow, safety procedures, and staffing assignments
Act as on-site contact for operational concerns and escalate issues when required
Monitor incoming loads for compliance with site acceptance criteria
Ensure proper placement, compaction, and cover of waste
Heavy Equipment Operation
Operate heavy equipment (e.g., loader, landfill compactor)
Perform daily equipment inspections and coordinate maintenance or repairs
Maintain safe and efficient equipment operation
Compliance & Safety
Enforce site safety protocols and regulatory requirements
Participate in safety meetings and provide on-site coaching
Monitor environmental controls (dust, litter, erosion, leachate, noise)
Maintain inspection and compliance records
Waste Screening & Diversion
Identify prohibited, hazardous, or divertible materials
Support diversion programs (metal, wood, drywall, organics, recyclables)
Track contamination and diversion performance
Communicate with customers and haulers regarding compliance
Administrative Support
Maintain daily logs and inspection checklists
Complete incident reports
Support audits and compliance documentation
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
2+ years of heavy equipment experience in landfill or construction environments
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
Knowledge of waste handling, recycling, and environmental regulations
Strong communication and leadership skills
Ability to work outdoors in a physically demanding environment
Basic computer skills (digital logs, tracking systems)
Ability to wear required PPE at all times
Preferred:
Landfill Operator Certificate of Qualification (SWANA), or willingness to obtain
Additional heavy equipment or supervisory certifications
