Position Status: Full-time (40 hours/week) Permanent       

      

Reporting to the Land-Based and Mobile Learning Manager, the Land-Based and Mobile Learning Supervisor oversees the day-to-day coordination and delivery of Métis-specific, culturally grounded land-based education and mobile learning programs for children and families across Alberta. The successful candidate will guide a team in planning, implementing, and evaluating immersive learning experiences that connect Métis families to land, culture, and community, including family retreats, seasonal land-based camps, and traveling early learning programs. The Land-Based and Mobile Learning Supervisor provides hands-on leadership to program coordinators and team members, ensuring programs are delivered safely, meaningfully, and in a way that reflects Métis traditions and knowledge. This role requires an open-minded, collaborative team player who can engage effectively with staff, families, and community partners, while seeking innovative approaches to expand access to land-based and mobile learning opportunities for Métis children and their families.

Key Responsibilities

Support program design to ensure activities are culturally grounded, inclusive, and aligned with Métis identity and values.

Maintain program timelines, milestones, and reporting systems to track progress and outcomes.

Identify opportunities to improve programming and suggest innovative approaches.

Mentor and coach program coordinators and staff, providing one-on-ones, guidance, feedback, and professional development opportunities.

Assist with hiring, onboarding, and performance management of team members.

Foster a collaborative, supportive, and accountable team culture.

Build and maintain relationships with Métis families, communities, and partners.

Support the Land-Based and Mobile Learning Manager in representing programs at community events, conferences, and gatherings.

Assist in proposal writing, reporting, and knowledge sharing with community and funding partners.

Collaborate with the Children and Family Services (CFS) communications team on program-specific communications plans.

Assist in managing budgets, logistics, and planning for family engagement initiatives.

Ensure programs comply with safety, accessibility, and quality standards.

Provide updates, reports, and recommendations to the Land-Based and Mobile Learning Manager.

Participate in and support the overall strategic direction of the Children and Family Services department and Otipemisiwak Métis Government.

Other duties as required or assigned.

Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Métis culture is an asset.

 

Qualifications

Post-secondary degree in Early Learning, Human or Social Services, or related field (equivalent experience will be considered).

Two to three years’ experience in a similar role is an asset.

Two years of leadership experience. Experience supervising a team of direct reports is preferred.

Indigenous Awareness Training is an asset.

Other Requirements

Position is based in Edmonton; in-office presence is required.

Ability to work a regular schedule of Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, as well as occasional evenings and weekends to meet departmental needs.

Must be willing to travel within Alberta and work irregular hours as required.

Reliable transportation and a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check with renewal every two years is required.

Clear Child Intervention Record Check with renewal every two years is required.
