About this Role
As a Site Labourer, you are responsible for ensuring the effective preparation and cleaning of homes, as well as maintaining overall site cleanliness and safety. Working in coordination with the Assistant Site Superintendent, your role supports day-to-day site operations by performing duties in accordance with company policies, procedures, and safety standards. The Site Labourer contributes to a positive experience for employees, customers, managers, and suppliers while supporting the vision, mission, and strategic goals of Tartan Homes Corporation.
Key Responsibilities
Load, unload, and transport construction materials between lots and sites as directed.
Move, clean, and maintain tools and equipment across the site daily.
Prepare homes for painters by scrubbing and readying all paint surfaces.
Prepare floors by vacuuming, mopping, removing nails, and scraping surfaces.
Prepare homes for carpenters and trades through general cleaning and surface prep.
Collect and dispose of site debris daily, ensuring compliance with waste programs.
Lock and unlock homes at the start and end of each shift.
Ensure water access by locating standpipes and turning on supply as needed.
Assist with general site operations, including supporting trades, installing safety measures, and managing heaters if certified.
Monitor and report health and safety issues, provide daily updates, and complete additional tasks as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements
High-school diploma is preferred.
Experience in residential building or related construction industry would be an asset.
Ability to receive and follow instructions and coordinate several simultaneous tasks while staying focused, paying strong attention to detail and maintaining a positive attitude and flexible work style.
Ability to lift, carry, push and pull items up to at least 40 lbs on a consistent basis throughout the day.
Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally in English.
Good organizational and time management skills, with the ability to complete tasks as per the prescribed schedule/timelines.
Self-motivated with the ability to work well independently, and a willingness to learn.
Good interpersonal skills in dealing with supervisors, trades and colleagues.
Current valid certifications in Working at Heights, Forklift, Propane and Natural Gas, First Aid, WHMIS 2015 and Health and Safety Awareness would be a strong asset.
Valid driver’s license in good standing and access to a vehicle is a requirement.
Physical/Sensory Effort and Work Environment
You work in a loud, busy residential construction site environment year-round, indoors and outdoors, in all weather conditions.
You maintain good physical condition for various on-site duties and can walk, stand, or sit for extended periods.
Overtime may be required as needed.
