Our Dunedin laboratory is currently seeking a motivated and detail-focused Laboratory Technician to join our Specimen Reception team on a full-time, permanent basis. This is a key frontline role within the laboratory, playing an essential part in ensuring the smooth and efficient flow of patient samples through our diagnostic services.
You will be the first point of contact for specimens arriving at the laboratory, helping to ensure they are accurately received, processed, and directed to the appropriate areas. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes pride in delivering excellent service, and is committed to supporting high-quality patient care through accuracy and efficiency. A strong customer-focused mindset, friendly approach, and ability to work collaboratively are essential.
Alongside these responsibilities, the role will include administrative tasks such as ordering supplies, conducting stocktakes, and processing end-of-month invoices. The position also involves laboratory-based work, including sample preparation and testing.
Key Responsibilities:
Receive, register, and accurately process incoming patient specimens
Ensure correct handling, labelling, and distribution of samples to appropriate departments.
Perform a range of laboratory-based testing methods and procedures.
Act as the first point of contact for internal and external laboratory clients.
Maintain high standards of accuracy, quality, and turnaround times.
Respond to queries and support effective communication across laboratory teams.
Follow all quality assurance, health and safety, and laboratory protocols.
Contribute to a positive, team-focused, and continuously improving work environment.
