Role Summary:
The Depot Operations Coordinator will oversee day-to-day operations at the container depot, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant handling, storage, movement, and documentation of containers while optimising yard utilisation and supervising depot staff.

Location: Mombasa, Kenya (On-Site)
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Oversight
Supervise daily depot activities including container receipt, stacking, storage, shifting, and release.
Ensure accurate container inventory control and real-time yard status updates.
Coordinate container movements with equipment operators (reach stackers, forklifts, RTGs).
Monitor turnaround times (TAT) and ensure operational KPIs are met.
Safety & Compliance
Enforce safety procedures and ensure compliance with OSHA/DOSH and company safety standards.
Conduct daily toolbox talks and safety inspections.
Ensure proper handling of damaged, hazardous, or special containers.
Investigate incidents, near-misses, and implement corrective actions.
Staff Supervision
Allocate duties and supervise yard clerks, equipment operators, security, and casual labor.
Monitor attendance, discipline, and performance of depot staff.
Coach, train, and mentor staff on SOPs and safe work practices.
Participate in staff performance reviews and shift planning.
Documentation & Systems
Ensure accurate documentation of container movements (EIRs, gate passes, damage reports).
Update depot management systems and ensure data accuracy.
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports.
Coordinate with customs, shipping lines, transporters, and clearing agents.
Asset & Equipment Management
Ensure proper yard layout, stacking plans, and space optimization.
Assist in planning preventive maintenance schedules for handling equipment.
Customer & Stakeholder Coordination
Liaise with shipping lines, transporters, and clients on container availability and issues.
Handle operational queries, delays, and escalations professionally.
Support audits, inspections, and client visits.
Candidate Requirements:
Knowledge and understanding of the shipping industry.
4+ years working experience in a similar position.
Bachelors/Diploma in a business related field.
Competent user of the Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Excel and Word.
Fluent in English with excellent communications skills, both oral and written.
Strong time management skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
