Justice Intake Coordinator
Location: 11821 123 Street Edmonton, AB.

Position Status: Full-time (40 hours/week), Permanent
The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is seeking a full-time Justice Intake Coordinator (JIC) to join our Justice Department. As the first point of contact for Métis Albertans accessing justice services, the JIC plays a vital role in ensuring respectful, culturally informed, and person-centred support. Reporting to the Director of Justice, the JIC will provide compassionate, non-judgmental intake services and connect citizens to navigators, programs, services, and referrals. As a member of a collaborative and dynamic team, the successful candidate will be self‑motivated, culturally aware, and skilled in building strong relationships. This position requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills, along with a commitment to advancing justice and well‑being for Métis people and communities.
Key Responsibilities
Act as the first point of contact for Métis Albertans seeking resource and navigation supports relating to the justice system.
Conduct initial intake assessments to identify client needs and determine appropriate supports, programs, or referrals.
Connect citizens to navigators, internal programs, external service providers, and community resources as required.
Maintain accurate and confidential records, databases, and case files to support program delivery and reporting.
Collaborate with Justice Department staff to ensure seamless service delivery and effective follow‑up with clients.
Assist in the coordination of justice programs, outreach activities, and community engagement sessions.
Prepare and maintain correspondence, reports, and documentation related to intake and referrals.
Uphold a high level of cultural sensitivity, professionalism, and confidentiality in all interactions.
Present a positive and professional image of the organization when interacting with employees, citizens, visitors, and other external stakeholders.
Support other justice departmental events, workshops, and initiatives.
Other duties as required or assigned.
Skills & Competencies
An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Métis culture, people, and values is an asset.
Knowledge of the Canadian Justice System and justice issues impacting Indigenous peoples.
Ability to build collaborative, positive relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including clients, community members, senior leadership, and Otipemisiwak Métis Government employees.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport quickly.
Attention to detail in maintaining accurate and confidential records, case files, and reports.
Demonstrated integrity, ethics, and professionalism in all aspects of work.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
Flexible and adaptable, with a willingness to learn and grow in a dynamic justice environment.
Must be able to handle situations with tact, diplomacy, and empathy.
Ability to be firm and assertive when necessary.
Political sensitivity and an ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
Ability to identify issues and implement creative and strategic solutions to overcome problems.
Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
Strong administrative, organizational and time management skills, with the ability to be flexible, adapt to changing priorities/requirements, and allocate time and resources effectively.
Ability to maintain filing systems, databases, and tracking processes.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint) and database systems; ability to learn new digital tools quickly.
Qualifications
Post-secondary education in Justice, Law, Human Services and/or a related field such as Social Services is an asset.
Experience working within the field of justice is an asset. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Ability to handle highly sensitive matters with integrity and confidentiality.
Experience in dealing with people with substance use and/or mental health issues is an asset.
Experience working within an Indigenous organization is an asset.
Training in Trauma-Informed Care and Indigenous Awareness Training are considered assets.
Other Requirements
Ability to work a regular schedule of Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, with availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, on occasion.
Must be willing to travel within Alberta and work irregular hours, on occasion, to attend events or meet departmental needs.
Must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and operational vehicle.
Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check with renewal every two years is required.
Clear Child Intervention Record Check with renewal every two years is required.
