GCS Group is actively hiring a Junior Telecom HDD Locator to join our underground construction crew in Red Deer, Alberta. We work on fibre and telecom installations across the region and our project load keeps our teams running on a consistent, high-hour schedule. This role is designed for someone who has completed their certifications and is ready to transition from the classroom into real field work.

You'll be working directly alongside experienced locators who will help you develop the situational awareness and equipment confidence that separates a good locator from a great one. We invest in our people because our projects depend on them.

What You'll Be Doing

Assist with locate operations on active telecom HDD bores in and around Red Deer

Operate SubSite equipment under the direction of a senior locator

Track and report drill head position, depth, and alignment during bore operations

Support utility identification and marking prior to ground disturbance

Maintain clear communication with drill operators throughout each bore

Follow all safe work procedures and site-specific safety requirements

Requirements

All locating certifications must be valid and confirmed before your start date — mandatory, no exceptions

Basic familiarity with SubSite locating equipment is an asset

Exposure to Ditch Witch HDD drills is a plus but not required at this level

Eager to learn, dependable, and safety-focused

Valid driver's licence

A valid Class 5 driver’s license with clean driver’s abstract

Ground Disturbance Level 2 training certification

CSTS 2020 certification
