About Your Role
The Junior Cost Estimator supports project teams by preparing cost estimates, analyzing project expenses, and assisting with financial decision-making. They develop preliminary and detailed estimates based on project documents, help evaluate change orders and contractor claims, and provide data to support negotiations. This role also involves researching current pricing trends and ensuring cost accuracy, while building foundational skills in estimating and project cost control.
Education Requirements
Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, engineering, or construction management
What You’ll Need to Get the Job Done
Two (2) years full-time paid professional experience in construction estimating of facilities or School Construction.
Knowledge of current local construction labor and material costs
Experience in developing and estimating the scope of work for change orders
Ability to compare the independent cost estimate with contractor proposal to identify differences
Ability to develop scope of work based on RFI/RFC answers and estimates the detailed costs of those scopes of work independent of the contractor proposal
Good oral and written communication skills
Fact-find and in-depth skills
What You’ll Do
Prepare preliminary independent cost estimates of projects for comparison with designer or contractor for PM/CM to establish negotiating position.
Assist in preparing change order estimates for Owner Authorized Representatives to establish negotiating position
Provides support in price negotiations
Prepares claim analysis and estimates
Prepares detailed estimates of construction costs based on drawings, specifications and sketches
Assists in reviewing contractor’s claims and proposals for merit and accountability
Conducts research on recent cost and price changes in supplies and services

$137,000.00 - $145,000.00 annually
