SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Reports to the Senior Curator, Collections & Monuments within the Museums & Heritage section and working closely with Collections and Conservation unit members to create a comprehensive, accurate and well-researched publicly accessible collections database. This role performs collections management duties including inputting and updating artifacts collections data into collections management database working with digital files including images and video and their associated metadata.
GENERAL DUTIES
Enters artifact collections data into the Argus collections management system using existing physical and digital documentation.
Consolidates artifact information from paper records and existing digital data, correcting fields as needed to create a comprehensive, accurate collections database.
Responsible for maintaining excellent data standards following data management and digitization procedures
Digitizes collections documentation using flatbed scanners and digital cameras then uploads digital files onto the collections management system
Conducts research on artifacts using on-line resources, primary and secondary documentary materials.
May handle and move artefacts.
Works in accordance with the provisions of applicable health and safety legislation and all City of Hamilton corporate and departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.
Performs other duties assigned which are directly related to the major responsibilities of the job.
QUALIFICATIONS
An Ontario high school diploma and relevant work experience digitizing cultural collections.
Previous direct experience with collection management databases and/or digital asset management systems. Experience with Argus would be considered an asset
Must have demonstrated proficiency in the fundamentals of data entry and the ability to type information quickly and with a high level of accuracy.
Demonstrated experience with museum, library or archival database systems
Strong understanding of the fundamentals of digitization in museums and archives with demonstrated experience digitizing records and photographing 3D artifacts and images.
Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail
Ability to relate well with employees at all
Previous experience in records management is a definite
