As a Senior Engineering consultant, specialising in electronic hardware development, you will be responsible for the design and development of robust and innovative products for the healthcare and medical industries.
You will need to be a self-starter, able to manage your own time and workload. You will have excellent communication skills and be able to build relationships with colleagues and contractors from across the organisation as well as clients and collaborators.
This role involves working on a range of projects, so it is suited to individuals who enjoy variety of work and can work flexibly.
Key responsibilities of the role will include:
• Provide advanced, state-of-the-art technical input to projects and proposals
• Adding momentum to improvements in technical capability, methodology and tools
• Supporting business development opportunities, through networking, representing the company externally, and leading or contributing to proposals
• Taking a lead when interacting with clients. While building trusting and lasting relationships with them
• Lend a ‘can do’ voice to proposals and client interactions, leading by example and helping to drive technical delivery ambition
• Supporting colleagues in the application and development of their skills and experience, especially of the more junior members of staff, both within the electronics group and across other groups
Depending on your specific expertise and breadth of experience, there will also be scope for technical contributions on a range of projects, in a capacity of advisor, consultant or technical reviewer.

Requirements:
Qualifications & Skills
• Post-graduate degree in electronic and electrical engineering or a closely related subject
• 10 years post qualification experience, mostly in a hands-on hardware design and implementation focused role
• Deep technical knowledge in one or more areas, set against a broad understanding of engineering science principles
• Solid practical know how covering tools (schematic entry and layout CAD, simulation, RCS/data management, firmware/FPGA development), advanced use of lab instruments and prototype construction, bring-up and debug
• Very good awareness of current state-of-the-art in methodology, components & manufacturing
• Can show or speak to specific examples of design and development outputs
• Clear evidence of contributions to development of methods, tools and processes.
Experience with the following would also be advantageous, but not essential:
• Familiarity with medical device and development standards, including IEC60601, ISO13485, ISO14971 and IEC62304
• Experience within a technical consultancy
• Experience in systems engineering including requirements management, detail design, system verification.
Consultancy Skills
• High standard of fundamental technical understanding – must know the ‘tools of the trade’
• A flair for business development and the ability to develop positive, long-term client relationships
• Sound judgement and attention to detail, able to work quickly and accurately
• Eager to lead, taking initiative and responsibility
• Appetite to contribute to the development and maintenance of tools and processes
• Disciplined approach and quality mindset, including familiarity with (or understanding of the importance of) regulatory compliance and working within a QMS
• Ability to liaise with colleagues, clients and sub-contractors at all levels.
• Experience in technology and supplier assessment
• Structured and methodical problem solving; ability to conduct trade-off analyses
• Track record of mentoring/people development.
Additional role requirements
Occasional travel to client or supplier sites, in the UK and further afield may be required.
