About Pelago Engineering:
Our engineering team operates as empowered, outcome-oriented problem solvers, working in close partnership with product, design, and clinical teams to improve member outcomes at scale.
As AI transforms how software is built, we are intentionally evolving our development lifecycle so we spend less time on mechanical implementation and more time on system design, judgment, and impact.
How We Work:
• Outcome-driven: Engineers are given problems to solve, not just features to build. Success is measured by learning, impact, and outcomes—not velocity alone
• AI-native: We use AI across the SDLC to accelerate implementation, testing, and review. Engineers focus on defining intent, validating behavior, and designing resilient systems
• High autonomy, high accountability: Teams have real ownership over their domains. With autonomy comes responsibility for quality, safety, and results
• Cross-functional by default: Engineers partner deeply with Product, Design, Data, and Clinical. Discovery, experimentation, and delivery are shared responsibilities
• Quality and safety matter: We build in a regulated, member-impacting domain. Reliability, observability, and correctness are first-class concerns
What We Look For:
We explicitly assess for empowerment:
• You start with "why" before diving into "how"
• You're energized by ambiguity and collaborative problem-shaping
• You use AI to amplify your judgment and move faster on what matters
• You think in systems and anticipate second-order effects
• You want to own outcomes, not just ship features
Overview of the Role:
Pelago is hiring an IT Operations Engineer to help scale the systems, support, and operational foundations behind a high-growth healthcare company. This role sits at the intersection of employee experience, security, and infrastructure - ensuring our team has reliable, secure, and thoughtfully designed technology workflows from onboarding through day-to-day operations.
You’ll own a broad area across endpoint management, SaaS administration, identity and access management, security operations, and internal support. We’re looking for someone who is deeply hands-on, highly organized, and motivated by reducing friction at scale. The right person for this role doesn’t just fix problems - they improve the systems underneath them.
As Pelago continues to grow, you’ll help modernize and evolve our IT operations environment through automation, process improvement, and strong operational judgment in a regulated healthcare setting.
This is a hybrid role with a high-collaboration rhythm (3 days/week in our NYC office).
In this role you will…
• Serve as the primary owner for internal IT support across hardware, software, networking, and employee productivity tooling
• Manage endpoint lifecycle operations across macOS and Windows devices, including provisioning, security policy enforcement, patching, and device recovery
• Administer core SaaS systems including Okta, Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, Atlassian, and other business-critical platforms
• Own onboarding and offboarding workflows, ensuring employees have secure, seamless access from day one through departure
• Help maintain Pelago’s security and compliance posture by supporting endpoint security standards, audit readiness, access reviews, and operational controls tied to HIPAA and SOC 2
• Improve operational efficiency through documentation, automation, self-service tooling, and scalable IT workflows
• Support and maintain office technology infrastructure including networking, AV systems, and hybrid meeting environments
• Partner closely with Engineering, Security, HR, and Finance to support company-wide operational initiatives and future growth
The background we are looking for…
• 3–5 years of experience in IT operations, systems administration, or internal IT engineering within a fast-paced technology environment
• Strong experience managing device fleets through MDM platforms such as Jamf, Kandji, Intune, or similar
• Deep familiarity with identity and access management workflows, particularly Okta or comparable SSO/MFA platforms
• Experience administering enterprise SaaS applications including Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, Atlassian, and related tools
• Strong understanding of endpoint security, vulnerability management, patching strategy, and operational compliance practices in regulated environments
• Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills with a high-empathy, employee-first mindset
• Experience creating operational documentation, knowledge bases, and repeatable support processes
• Strong prioritization instincts and operational judgment in balancing responsiveness, security, and scalability
