Job Description

NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is responsible for administering the tax revenue laws of the city fairly, efficiently, and transparently to instill public confidence and encourage compliance while providing exceptional customer service.

DOF’s Finance Information Technology (FIT) Division designs, builds, and supports all facets of DOF’s computer systems, including hardware, software, applications, infrastructure, telephone, and data security. FIT delivers and administers tax-related payment programs for the City of New York by providing the information technology solutions needed to achieve its mission of collecting revenue while ensuring an efficient and improved customer experience. FIT is also responsible for the systems and websites which enable citywide payments, land records, property assessment, parking adjudications, customer service, and the Sheriff’s public safety work.

The FIT-IT Service Management-Asset Management team supports approximately 2,100+ employees and consultants across 10 locations in the five boroughs of New York City. The IT Asset Management Analyst is responsible for keeping an accurate and up-to-date inventory of DOF's hardware and software assets throughout their entire lifecycle. This includes recording, tracking, monitoring, and auditing assets to reduce waste, meet licensing and procurement rules, and make the best use of resources. The analyst gathers and reviews asset data, works with the IT Asset Management Supervisor, procurement team and other groups to provide useful information for decisions on buying IT items, move assets within the agency, and plan renewals. This work helps avoid unnecessary spending, get the most value from current IT resources, improve efficiency, and support clear understanding of the agency's assets for smooth daily operations. This role supports DOF's mission by helping manage IT resources effectively and cost-efficiently.

Reporting to the IT Asset Management Administrator, the selected candidate’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:

- Keep complete and current records of all hardware, software, and related IT assets from start to end (procurement, use, maintenance, and disposal).
- Track and monitor assets using tools like ServiceNow or similar systems to keep data accurate and consistent.
- Perform regular in-person and virtual equipment audits, fix any differences in records, and find unused, extra, or old assets to cut waste.
- Monitor the usage of software licensing to track over or under utilization of licenses.
- Work with procurement, finance, IT support, security, and other teams to share data that helps with buying, renewals, moving assets, and saving money.
- Review asset use, trends, and data to create reports and suggestions for IT planning, budgets, and reducing risks.
- Report broken IT equipment under warranty to the appropriate organization and coordinate repair. Repairing IT equipment, no longer under warranty using available on-site parts, whenever feasible.
- Handle requests for assets, help set up hardware, track location and ownership changes, and manage safe disposal/recycling.
- Find ways to lower IT costs by better using assets, reusing licenses, combining items, and avoiding unneeded buys.
- Help improve IT asset management processes, tools, and practices (following standards like ITIL) for better efficiency.
- Support checks for risks with IT assets, such as security issues, end-of-life planning, and compliance problems.
- Able to lift 50 lbs. for moving IT equipment as needed to process deliveries, returns, and salvage.
- Other related tasks assigned to you by your supervisor.

Additional Information:

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.

This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program agreed between the City and the Collective Bargaining Unit representing employees serving in the civil service title.

COMPUTER ASSOC (TECH SUPP) - 13611

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of satisfactory full-time experience, in mainframe computer, mid-range computer, LAN or WAN computer environments and or local desktop support; or"
2. An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college or university and three years of satisfactory, full-time experience as described in "1" above; or
3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and four years of satisfactory, full-time experience, as described in "1" above; or
4. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above. Undergraduate college credit can be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits, from an accredited college or university, for six months of experience. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and two years of satisfactory full-time experience, as described in "1" above.
