This job will close 3/19/2026 and is a day shift position.
US Synthetic has an immediate need for a R&D Operator located in Orem, UT. The R&D Operator will manufacture various products and material to Engineer’s specifications for design, testing, and documentation of experimental and customer PDC product. Assist R&D Technicians with assignments for analyzing cutter methods, preventing failures, and recommend improvements. Perform all processes of press and finish.

What You Will Do:
Read and follow detailed instructions and procedures to complete tasks according to product specifications including drawings or prints
Assist R&D Technicians with assignments, including analyzing cutter performance using nondestructive methods, observing potential cutter design failures, and making recommendations to improve product lead-time and quality on manufacturing floor.
Communicate with Engineers and Technicians to discuss each experimental process or part
Learn, adhere to, and apply Lean Manufacturing and ISO principles and procedures to maintain a high-quality standard and maximize capability and productivity
Submit and implement continuous improvement ideas per company standard
Understand and operate assembly, press and lapping equipment i.e. small and large hydraulic and pneumatic equipment
Cross-train on all pieces of equipment and processes to maximize capabilities and productivity
Rotate as needed among all necessary processes and assist other team members
Set-up and run various grinding machines, i.e. centerless grinders, height grinders, chamfering, etc. to precise dimensions according to product specifications
Use basic measuring tools to inspect and measure parts for accuracy and conformance to product specifications
Operate any experimental equipment as needed
Document specific changes and redlines for each process or part
Participate in monthly one-on-one coaching with team leader
Work overtime and weekends when necessary
Must keep proprietary intellectual property confidential

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma/GED is required

Physical Demands:
Standing for up to eight hours or more
Lift up to 50 lbs.
Full range of motion i.e. lifting, repetitive motions with hands and arms, bending, etc.
Use of safety equipment (Safety glasses, Steel-toed boots, Gloves, Hearing protection, Respirator)

Observational Skills
Computer Skills i.e. Microsoft Office and email
Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
Ability to set-up and operate multiple types of grinding equipment
Ability to maintain small tolerances and dimensions
Ability to read and interpret prints, experimental records, and process routers
Knowledge of Lean and other problem solving methods i.e. PDCA, Six Sigma
Must be able to work well with others as a cross functional team
