THIS POSITION IS FOR CURRENT BASDEN STEEL WORKERS ONLY.
The Safety & Risk Coordinator supports day-to-day workplace safety operations within Basden Steel/Deem facilities by executing established safety policies, conducting field-level monitoring, and ensuring employees follow required safety procedures. This role focuses on on-the-floor enforcement, documentation, and coordination, operating under the direction of the Safety Director.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct routine site safety walk-throughs to observe safety measures and risk assessments on the shop floor and in fabrication areas.
Being able to travel to multiple locations.
Monitor and enforce proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Report safety concerns, hazards, and trends to the Safety Director for review and additional follow-up.
Assist with Workers’ Compensation claim processing, documentation, and follow-up working with HR
Serve as a liaison between employees, supervisors, and HR for claim-related paperwork.
Coordinate and schedule required safety training sessions for new hires, temporary employees, and track ongoing workforce certifications (e.g., forklift, CPR/First Aid, PPE use and forklift operations).
Provide on-site support during incident or near-miss investigations by collecting statements, taking photos, and maintaining accurate records of such findings.
Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agency visits (e.g., OSHA, fire department, EPA) and assist during audits or inspections.
Collaborate with supervisors and department leads to ensure safety measures are integrated into daily operations.
Participate in or lead Safety Committee meetings and contribute to continuous improvement efforts, provide support and direction for implementation.
Required Qualifications:
Bilingual in (English and Spanish) mandatory.
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field preferred.
3+ years of safety experience in an industrial or fabrication environment (steel or metal fabrication highly preferred).
Strong knowledge of OSHA 1910 general industry regulationsand applicable ANSI, NFPA, and EPA standards.
Proven experience conducting training, audits, and incident investigations.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and Microsoft proficient with
Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point,
Strong attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications:
OSHA 30-Hour Certification (or ability to obtain within 60 days).
First Aid/CPR and Forklift Train-the-Trainer certification.
Familiarity with safety management systems (SMS) or EHS software platforms & Learning Management System (LMS)
Work Environment:
This role requires regular presence on the plant floor in a heavy industrial environment (noise, heat, dust, large equipment).
Must be able to wear appropriate PPE and perform walk-throughs of all production areas, including elevated work platforms and confined spaces.
May require travel between plant locations or to attend training events.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and move throughout the facility for extended periods.
Lift up to 40 lbs occasionally.
Tolerance to various environmental conditions (noise, heat, metal dust, etc.
Employment is contingent on passing background check and drug screen.
