Position Summary

Acts as a resource for Environmental, Health and Safety guidance for facility and subcontractor personnel engaged in diverse industrial sectors related to ship repair. This encompasses areas such as onboard sea-going vessels, industrial workshops, and dry docks, while ensuring adherence to established Federal OSHA, State OSHA, NAVSEA Standard Items, and Maritime regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

Performs comprehensive daily assessments and inspections across diverse working environments and sites to ensure adherence to established safety and health regulations, along with compliance to company policies and procedures.

Ensures the rectification of identified hazards and violations or suspends operations until appropriate corrections are implemented.

Ensures adherence to the directives of Certified Marine Chemists regarding the National Fire Protection Association's regulations related to confined spaces, documentation, maintenance of necessary equipment, and annual recertification.

Engaged in ongoing collaboration with clients, company personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, and facility visitors.

Ensures that Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) processes adhere to both corporate and regulatory standards.

Conducts thorough investigations of injuries and accidents by meticulously examining evidence, analyzing contributing factors, interviewing witnesses, and reconstructing events to identify the origins of reported injuries and illnesses.

Collaborates with management, supervisory staff, and personnel to ensure the timely implementation of corrective and preventative measures.

Implements operations in alignment with Técnico’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), Safety Manual, Environmental Manual, and all pertinent flow-down documentation to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel.

Ensures adherence to the relevant regulations set forth by both state and federal OSHA, as well as applicable industry standards.

Responsible for the collection, research, and maintenance of Safety Data Sheets and the associated library.

Conducted comprehensive research on safety and health issues related to concerns and gang box training topics.

Accountable for conducting weekly Gang box training sessions, ensuring that employees are well-informed about the hazards related to their job responsibilities.

Ensures that all new and existing equipment requiring city permits and certifications are properly maintained, while continuously advocating for compliance with the parameters outlined in the permits.

Education and Experience:

High School diploma or GED certificate or equivalent education and experience.

A minimum of one year of experience in ship repair or shipyard operations is preferred. Management reserves the right to assess an applicant's qualifications based on relevant knowledge and certifications that fulfill the position's requirements.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Possess a comprehensive understanding of OSHA Regulations, specifically 29 CFR 1910 and 1915, as well as NAVSEA Standard Items.

Possess expertise in the systematic investigation and reporting of environmental incidents, along with the ability to recommend effective corrective actions.

Possess a comprehensive understanding of ship repair specifications relevant to extensive ship-wide and multi-ship repair initiatives.

Demonstrated proficiency in interactive communication skills, with a strong ability to present information effectively and address inquiries from management.

Effective communication with ship personnel, contractors, subcontractors, vendors, customers, and employees is essential.

Proficient in computer skills with the capability to utilize statistical and various analytical techniques effectively.

Certified Shipyard Competent Person (SYCP).

Expertise in maritime operations and regulations is essential.

Certified in 40-Hour Hazwoper training.

Certified in Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.

Ability to work at a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Ability and tolerance to meet due dates and deadlines and/or time constraints.

Ability to evaluate and analyze departmental and industry trends.

Knowledge of and ability to utilize Microsoft office applications.

Ability to resolve complaints and negotiate with others.
