Debmarine Namibia offers an opportunity for a Geological Observer Intern (sea-going) on fixed term-contract (12 months). The successful incumbent will provide hands-on production or exploration geological support on the company’s vessels to ensure optimum extraction or sampling of the mineral resource.
THE GEOLOGICAL OBSERVER INTERN AT DEBMARINE NAMIBIA:
• Performs basic statistical and quantitative analyses of various parameters that impact mining, resource reconciliation and production optimization.
• Routinely undertakes geophysical data interpretation (2D and 3D chirp seismics) to aid mining rate prediction, mineability assessment and mining efficiency monitoring through all available datasets.
• Continuous mine production and/or exploration geology support including detailed mapping of areas scheduled to be mined.
• Continuously monitor, audit and perform quality control checks of various production and vessel operating parameters to optimize production or exploration sampling.
• Ensures consistent recording and reporting of geological data to support the delineation and evaluation of offshore mineral deposits.
• Enforces QA/QC mineral resource management standards during mining or sampling while ensuring consistent recording and reporting of geological data to support the delineation and evaluation of offshore mineral deposits.
• Advises mining tool operators (through monitoring) of geological hazards and other adverse conditions that would affect mining or sampling efficiency through communication of geological data packs and observation (and seismic interpretation).
THE FOLLOWING COMPETENCIES ARE KEY FOR THIS POSITION:
• Demonstrated working knowledge and skills utilizing office applications including MS Office, and MS Access database.
• Basic knowledge in geological modelling.
• Basic knowledge with spatial data software like ArcGIS and/or ArGIS PRO.
• Familiar with basic statistics and data integration skills.
• Strong verbal, written, analytical and presentation skills.
• Positive attitude and good organizational, teamwork and interpersonal skills.
• Able to work under pressure.
CANDIDATE MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
• BSc degree or Bsc Hons in Geosciences/Earth Sciences (e.g. Geology/Geophysics).
• Candidates with some Statistics and/or Mathematics academic background will be preferred and thus have a strong advantage.
• GIS (ArcView/Database MS Access) knowledge will be an added advantage.
Preference will be given to Namibian citizens and designated persons as prescribed by the Namibian Affirmative Action Act.
