👩‍💻 The role

As our Data Engineering Intern, you will help build and optimize the data infrastructure that powers business intelligence across Headout. You’ll play a key role in moving, transforming, and validating data so teams can rely on fast, accurate, and scalable systems. At Headout, data sits at the heart of decision-making, and the data engineering team ensures the foundation is strong, observable, and future-ready.

• Build and Refactor: Work hands-on with core data pipelines, automating ingestion from multiple sources and refactoring existing workflows to improve performance and reliability.

• Scale with Impact: Contribute to optimizing our cloud-based data infrastructure, ensuring systems remain efficient and scalable as the business grows rapidly.

• Quality First: Help maintain high standards of data accuracy and reliability, ensuring production data is trustworthy and decision-ready.

• Systems Visibility: Gain exposure to modern observability practices by setting up centralized alerts and performance metrics using tools like Prometheus and Grafana.

• Solve Real Problems: Investigate performance bottlenecks and inefficiencies in existing workflows, learning how large-scale data systems operate in production.

• Learn by Collaborating: Partner closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to support data-driven initiatives across the company.

🎯 What skills you need to have

• Strong fundamentals in Python, used for data manipulation, automation, or building simple systems

• Solid SQL skills, including complex joins and working with databases like PostgreSQL or BigQuerY.

• Curiosity for how data systems work end-to-end and a mindset focused on scalability and reliability

✨ Nice to have

• Basic understanding of Kafka or real-time data processing

• Exposure to dbt or Airflow for data modeling or orchestration

• Familiarity with Git, Docker, or CI/CD pipelines

• Any experience with GCP or AWS and cloud-native systems
