Intern – Competition, Regulation and Economics, London 

 

Interns join our London office for a 3-month placement, working directly with senior colleagues and gaining exposure to cutting-edge policy and regulatory issues across the UK and Europe. 

 

We welcome applications from candidates who have completed, or are studying towards, a degree in economics or a related field, particularly those with a focus on regulation or competition. Applicants must have the right to live and work in the UK.

WHAT WE OFFER

When you join Flint Global as an Intern, you are joining a strategic public policy consultancy that will challenge you and invest in your development. Internships at Flint provide practical experience for individuals with an interest and/or background in policy, politics, economics, competition policy and regulation. They are short-term supervised placements, usually structured around a set of tasks and/or a project which has a set timescale.

The Competition, Regulation and Economics (CR&E) team at Flint uses its experience of economics, regulation, competition policy and broader public policy to help our clients manage their most pressing and strategically important problems. We understand the importance of the economic context – but we also understand that that is usually only part of the ‘answer’ – we provide strategic advice that considers all angles. 

 

Our work includes helping clients with:  

 

major transactions  

regulatory or competition investigations  

regulatory policy and legislation e.g. in respect of new infrastructure build  

regulatory engagement strategy  

strategic and organisational decisions  

public policy issues where the economics matters  

regulatory finance

WHAT YOU WILL DO

You will be working closely with senior colleagues in London, where you will support client engagements by providing analysis and briefing, contributing to policy development and project management.  Interns receive frequent coaching and mentoring from colleagues on their teams. This support includes input from your colleagues to help guide your career, enabling you to develop your skills and build your network.

ABOUT YOU

To be eligible for our internship, you must have recently graduated or be in your penultimate or final year at university or business school (master’s preferred, but undergraduate also considered), and have the right to live and work in the UK. Your degree should be in competition, regulation, economics, or a related field.

 

We’re looking for individuals who can build meaningful relationships, are motivated, forward-thinking, and ambitious, and who bring integrity and a genuine client focus to everything they do. You should also enjoy working in a team environment.

We are expecting you to work for 3 months, starting in June (but we can be flexible depending on your availability). We do not offer visa sponsorships for this position, so you need to be authorised to work in the office you are applying to.

You will bring the following range of skills:

 

A degree (or be in the penultimate year of a degree) in
economics, or a related field, particularly if you have a focus on IO,
regulation or competition. 

Excellent analytical, research and problem-solving skills. 

Outstanding written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise documents in a business context. 

The ability to communicate complex or technical concepts clearly to non-specialist audiences. 

Strong organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise, plan and proactively manage complex tasks, and to work effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines. 

Strong interpersonal skills, with a flexible approach and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams, both with internal colleagues and external clients. 

Fluency in English is required.
