About the role

Are you an art history student with a passion for Classical & Modern Art? Do you get excited by art, auctions, and the stories behind exceptional artworks? Then this might be the perfect opportunity for you.

At Catawiki, we believe every object has a story — and our team of classical art experts brings those stories to life. You'll be joining a warm, international group of experts who work together to curate weekly auctions in Classical & Modern Art. From 16th-century oil paintings to striking examples of modernism, our catalogue spans a rich diversity of styles, movements, and media.

You’ll gain hands-on experience at one of Europe’s most dynamic online auction platforms — curating live auctions, assisting with valuations, and learning the ins and outs of the art market. Whether it’s appraising and reviewing artworks, coordinating with sellers, or supporting senior experts, you’ll gain valuable insight into the full spectrum of tasks that power a successful auction. Most importantly, you’ll be encouraged to contribute your ideas and grow as part of our passionate team.

What you’ll do

• Support Auction Curation: Assist experts in valuating, selecting and curating artworks for upcoming Classical & Modern Art auctions.

• Gain Marketplace Know-How: Learn how Catawiki’s platform operates and how our experts ensure quality, trust, and transparency for buyers and sellers.

• Contribute to Cataloguing: Help describe lots accurately, including basic research and proofreading.

• Support Seller Communications: Assist in corresponding with sellers about submissions, feedback, and auction timelines.

• Collaborate with Sales: Partner with the sales team to identify and follow up on potential sellers, help assess the suitability of incoming artworks, and contribute to growing our network of trusted partners.

• Bring Fresh Perspective: Share your ideas — from emerging artists to innovative presentation formats — and help us keep our auctions fresh and inspiring.

What you’ll bring

• A student currently pursuing a degree in Art History or a related field, at a Dutch University.

• Being fluent in Dutch or Italian language is required.

• Art Lover at Heart: You’re currently pursuing a degree in Art History, Arts & Culture, Museum Studies, or a related field.

• Passionate About Classical & Modern Art: From Old Masters to early 20th-century abstraction, you’re genuinely enthusiastic about these periods and their relevance today.

• Eager to Learn: You’re excited to dive into the workings of an online auction house and expand your skills in a real-world context.

• Detail-Oriented & Organised: You take care in how artworks are presented, with a strong eye for spelling, structure, and factual accuracy.

• Tech-Savvy and Adaptable: Comfortable working in digital platforms and tools, and quick to learn new systems.

• Team Player: You enjoy collaborating in a multicultural team environment and aren't afraid to ask questions or offer help.

Our Offices and Way of Working

Our vibrant offices in Amsterdam, Paris and Lisbon are designed to inspire and connect. Most Catawikians are within commuting distance of one of our offices and enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work model. That said, some roles may be an exception: if the job description states that the position is fully remote or 100% office-based, that arrangement will apply instead.
