OVERVIEW
Vertex is currently accepting applications for a full-time, permanent Intermediate Environmental Scientist to join our growing team. In this role, you will manage and support a variety of oil and gas assessment and remediation projects, helping deliver high-quality environmental solutions that meet project objectives, regulatory requirements, and client expectations.
The successful candidate will be involved in all stages of project execution, including the development of work plans and cost estimates, project coordination, field program delivery, data interpretation, and reporting. This position is well suited to a motivated environmental professional who enjoys a balance of field and office work, takes pride in delivering practical and cost-effective solutions, and is looking to continue building their technical and project management experience.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATION
Diploma, degree, or higher education in environmental science, biology, or a related discipline.
Currently possesses, or is qualified to obtain, a professional designation or in-training designation applicable for conducting professional sign-off in Alberta. Eligibility for professional sign-off in Saskatchewan and/or British Columbia would be considered an asset but is not required
3 to 7 years of environmental consulting or related field experience, with demonstrated experience in:
Phase I and Phase II program execution
Remediation programs
Groundwater monitoring; and
Reclamation, Detailed Site Assessments, and/or vegetation management, considered an asset.
Project management experience is considered an asset, including cost estimating, scheduling, budget tracking, client interactions, and communications.
Willingness and ability to complete field work for extended periods throughout Western Canada (predominantly Alberta).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong technical reporting abilities.
Strong time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Working knowledge of contaminated sites regulations in Alberta is required. Familiarity with Saskatchewan and/or British Columbia regulations would be considered an asset but is not required.
Hydrogeology experience or background would be considered a strong asset.
Experience developing assessment and/or remediation cost estimates would be considered an asset.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Complete technical field activities for environmental assessment, remediation, and reclamation projects, with field work representing approximately 50–70% of the role.
Coordinate project activities, manage cost control, and support project scoping to deliver practical, cost-effective solutions that meet client objectives, regulatory requirements, and budget expectations.
Contribute to both field and office-based project execution, including planning, coordination, field implementation, data review, and reporting support.
Demonstrate active stewardship of Vertex and client safety programs by promoting safe work practices and maintaining compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
Develop and maintain effective relationships with Vertex team members, clients, regulators, and other project stakeholders.
Mentor and coach junior environmental staff through field guidance, technical support, and knowledge sharing.

This position will be based out of our Sherwood Park office.
