Supervisor: Program Director
Job Status: Full Time / 35hrs per week
Job Location: Hybrid, (2-3 days in office)
Salary Range: $58,000- $62,000 - Non-Exempt
Neighborhood Self Help by Older Persons Project (SHOPP) is a non-profit social service agency located in the Bronx serving older adults and families caring for an ill, frail, or disabled loved one. SHOPP’s mission is to enhance the strength and resilience of individuals , regardless of age or ability through innovative programs and support services.
SHOPP has several service programs in the Bronx/Upper Manhattan, including the Community Care Network Program (CCNP); VIP Elder Justice and Crime Victims Assistance Program; NY Connects of the Bronx;
Case Management & Friendly Visiting Program; Caregivers Program, Lafayette Estates NORC Program; Older Adult Centers: Casa Boricua, Leon, Soundview, and Guess.
Position Summary and Qualifications:
The Neighborhood SHOPP Violence Intervention and Prevention (VIP) Elder Justice Program supports older Bronx residents affected by domestic violence and crime, with an emphasis on prevention and victim assistance. The Intake Worker serves a diverse population and must be bilingual in English and Spanish. Strong computer literacy is required, with proficiency in Microsoft Office preferred. This position follows a hybrid work schedule and may include outreach-related fieldwork.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a related field
1–2 years of experience working with older adults or other vulnerable populations
Demonstrated skills in critical thinking, empathy, oral and written communication, conflict resolution, and time management
Ability to engage in public speaking and outreach activities
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
Proficiency in computer and technology skills
Job Description: With a Hybrid work schedule, the Elder Justice Intake/Outreach Worker is specifically responsible for the following:
Determine preliminary eligibility and complete intake along with preliminary assessments on elder abuse and crime victims seeking information, support, and service on-site or off-site;
Provide information and referral to victims or professionals of other internal/external programs;
Assist social workers with follow-up calls for telephone reassurance;
Provide Program Director with completed intake and screening reports;
Maintain client case records, worker logs, performance target outcome tracking, statistical reports, and other administrative requirements;
Ahere to NYC Aging, OVS, and other relevant government guidelines, regulations, procedures, and compliance expectations;
Complete OVS functional timesheets when required;
Assist with annual outreach plan while tracking CD referral log;
Participate in team meetings and provide referral tracking data to the team;
Serve as a backup to outreach worker with presentations when requested;
Identify and maintain collaborative relationships in the victim’s assistance network;
Attend periodic training and skill development workshops;
Participate in SHOPP staff training programs, staff meetings, Advisory Committee Meetings, Community Board meetings, and other meetings as assigned;
Involvement in a supervisory relationship with the PD and AD;
Perform other program related tasks as the Program Director, Assistant Director or Chief Program Officer assigns.
Work Schedule and Conditions:
Hybrid work schedule; staff are required to report to the office a minimum of 2–3 days per week, or as assigned
Ability to conduct community outreach events, which may include evenings and weekends, and require walking up and down stairs and lifting up to 5–10 lbs
Ability to perform fieldwork in varying weather conditions
Required attendance at in-person meetings, trainings, and program events
