Job Description
The University of Notre Dame is more than a workplace! We are a vibrant, mission-driven community where every employee is valued and supported. Rooted in a tradition of excellence and inspired by our Catholic character, Notre Dame is committed to fostering an environment of care that nurtures the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. Here, you will find a deep sense of belonging, a culture that prioritizes well-being, and the opportunity to grow your career while being a force for good in the world. Whether contributing to world-class research, shaping the student experience, or supporting the University’s mission in other ways, you will be part of a dedicated team working to make a meaningful impact on campus and beyond. At Notre Dame, your work matters, and so do you!
The University of Notre Dame Power Plant is looking for a DeltaV Controls Technician who views the system as more than just a set of wires and screens. While this role involves the vital maintenance and calibration of our instrumentation, we are looking for someone who specifically enjoys the logic side of controls—building it, troubleshooting it, and making it better.
This is a mission-critical role where you aren’t just following a manual; you’re the person who can open up a control strategy, trace the logic, and solve the puzzle rather than just resetting a code.
What You’ll Be Doing
• System Ownership: Support and maintain the DeltaV control system, ensuring the logic and sequencing drive safe and reliable plant operations.
• Logic-First Troubleshooting: Deep-dive into function blocks, control strategies, and interlocks to figure out the "why" behind system behavior.
• Precision Maintenance: Perform essential calibration, testing, and repairs on complex instrumentation—including digital, analog, and pneumatic controls.
• Continuous Improvement: Partner with the Operations team to upgrade existing systems and improve performance. You’ll be the person who fixes the problem instead of guessing.
• Compliance & Safety: Conduct audits and calibrations to ensure the accuracy of our records and reports. You’ll also be a key player in responding to emergency situations to restore system functionality safely.
What We’re Looking For
• The Mindset: You have a "logic-first" brain. Whether your background is in DeltaV, PLC programming, or DCS, you understand cause-and-effect and process automation.
• Technical Foundation: You are comfortable with transmitters, transducers, meters, and controllers. You can bridge the gap between field hardware and the digital control room.
• Education: A one-year technical certificate or completion of a Technical School/Apprenticeship program.
• Experience: 1–2 years of relevant experience in a high-stakes environment.
• Commitment: Ability to successfully complete the Utilities Department training regimen for this position within 12 months of hire.
Why Notre Dame?
If you thrive on precision, problem-solving, and making a real impact on daily operations, you’ll find a home here. We offer:
• A strong, stable work environment with a mission-driven team.
• Competitive pay based on your specific experience.
• Excellent benefits and a chance to work at one of the world’s leading universities.
Education & Training
• One-year certificate or technical training from a college or technical school required
• Completion of a Technical School or Apprenticeship Program
Experience
• 1–2 years of relevant experience
Skills & Technical Expertise
• Strong ability to test, troubleshoot, assess, calibrate, repair, and commission instrumentation and control systems, including:• Digital, analog, and pneumatic controls
• Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
• Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
• Discrete controls
• Instrumentation such as transmitters, transducers, meters, and controllers
• Ability to successfully complete the Utilities Department training regimen for this position within 12 months of hire
Application Deadline to Apply: May 7, 2026
Hiring Pay Range: Commensurate with experience
