As a Design Engineer, you will have ownership to manage the designing, developing, engineering and creative activities for vehicle center floor console systems. The Center Console Design Engineer will report to the Manager.
Responsibilities
· Leading the development of unique, innovative and advanced engineering center console concepts and component designs - continuing these through release and launch support.
· Engineer mechanical, kinematic and structural components along with A-class surface and electronics integration.
· Perform feasibility checks with respect to material, manufacturing & design aspects.
· Work diligently with suppliers to develop each applicable component/sub-system to meet all weight, cost, durability, and performance targets.
· Effectively collaborate with other engineering groups, suppliers and leadership team to meet engineering deliverables within tight time constraints.
· Ensure compliance of the system and component designs with all vehicle/component requirements, quality objectives, program milestones, performance, cost, weight & safety.
· Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
· Some travel domestically and/or internationally.
Qualifications
· Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials, Chemical, Civil, Aerospace, Computer Engineering.
· Minimum 6 years of total work experience, with 4 years of experience in automotive interior trim design and development
· Understanding of plastic and metal structures, comfort modeling; prototype development and testing; systems engineering fundamentals; and plastics injection/blow molding manufacturing are needed to be successful in this position.
· Intermediate design, packaging, A-class surface and 3D modeling skills (CATIA V5/6 preferred)
· Experience with DFMEA, DVP&R and specification development
· Motivator that is organized, can quickly solve difficult design problems and has a passion for innovation.
Preferred Qualifications
· Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
· Outstanding design, packaging, A-class surface and 3D modeling skills (CATIA V5/V6)
· Senior level knowledge of plastics and composites molding techniques, tooling, foaming, wrapping, extrusions, attachment schemes and assembly methodology.
· Strong understanding of new and emerging technologies, products, and development methods to design a world-class consumer experience
· Experience interpreting FEA and mold flow simulations.
· Previous planning and program management experience.
· In-plant and/or program/vehicle launch experience
