Position Summary
The Chiu School of Business is currently accepting applications for an immediately required Instructor, Macroeconomics.
Instructors in the Chiu School of Business support the delivery of programs and are responsible for providing instruction to students in multiple modalities; facilitating inclusive student engagement; evaluating student progress; designing and developing programs, course curriculum, and instructional materials; supporting students in meeting the learning outcomes of their courses and programs; and liaising with other faculty, schools, centers, internal and external stakeholders, and industry partners to facilitate and support continuous instructional and program improvement, inclusive learning opportunities, and placement and partnership opportunities in industry.
Responsibilities encompass all faculty professional duties related to instructional delivery, including teaching preparation; program and course development; evaluation; student support such as remediation and consultation; participation in special projects and College committees; and other related duties as assigned.
Areas of responsibility may include:
Provide Quality Instruction and Program and Curriculum Support
Prepare and update course syllabi/outlines and course content
Create lesson plans and course schedules
Develop, review, and update course/curriculum and suitable assessment criteria with faculty and Program Chair(s) support
Evaluate student performance on an ongoing basis and provide students and administrators with learner progress reports
Maintain official records as required
Collaborate with faculty and academic/instructional design units to ensure inclusion of best practices in instructional delivery and innovation in course development and instructional design
Liaise with external stakeholders and develop community partnerships in industry for placement support
Mentor other faculty and educational assistants
Provide expertise in business related initiatives, and in particular, Risk Management application.
Provide a Positive Learning Experience for Students
Meet with students regarding academic issues (e.g.: attendance, classroom/online conduct, performance)
Refer students to other institutional supports as required (e.g.: tutoring, counseling)
Ensure student accommodations are met (e.g.: reduced course load, additional time, vision impairments, hearing impairments, testing)
Identify areas of concern and refer to the Program Chair(s) for follow up if necessary
Support the program in awarding scholarships and bursaries
Participate in College and School events that promote student success (e.g.: orientation, open house, graduation)
Build and Maintain Relationships with Internal and External Stakeholders and Promote the Department and the College
Keep current regarding changes, trends, and innovations in industry and support curriculum redesign as required
Keep current with industry practices in business-related areas
Meet with industry and community stakeholders and participate on Advisory Committee(s)
Attend external community and industry meetings and events to build relationships and promote the College, School and programs
Facilitate interaction and act as liaison with professional industry associations and industry stakeholders
Participate in recruitment events
Assist with articulation and transfer activity as required
Collaborate with other Schools and Departments in joint initiatives
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Masters preferred)
5+ years of work experience in a relatable field
Instructional experience in a post-secondary or corporate environment an asset
Demonstrated flexibility in multi-unit organizations and experience working across business units
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
Expert knowledge in related business field principles and practices
Exceptional writing skills
Curriculum development and design experience an asset
Experience working with an online delivery platform (e.g. D2L, Blackboard or Moodle)
Highly organized
Industry relationships an asset
Strong technical skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered.
