Job Description

Buildings University (BU) supports the technical, professional and career development of Buildings employees. BU strives to cultivate professional employees who are knowledgeable and credible. BU provides employees with resources they need to succeed by offering intensive technical training, including various certifications, continuing education opportunities, professional development, and integrity training.

Each academy consists of nine weeks of classroom instruction followed by five weeks of On-The-Job Training (OJT). The curriculum covers the NYC Construction Codes, Zoning Resolution, applicable laws, Administrative Enforcement, OATH procedures, inspection methodology, safety, and required technology systems. The Department conducts four academies annually, with an average of 20 new inspectors per cohort. BU also provides in-person and on-demand virtual continuing education for ITA graduates, so they continue to be fully prepared to meet operational expectations and uphold the Department’s regulatory responsibilities.

- Coordinate logistics for training.
- Engage unit stakeholders to develop, implement and maintain the structured OJT program.
- Deliver training in construction codes, laws, and rules relevant to the field as part of OJT.
- Establish metrics to evaluate the structured OJT program effectiveness and share best practices across all units.
